RHP III's former father in law, Ron Thomas, who raced the '71 Demon below, passed away Saturday. Ron raced at Keystone and QC, but hadn't had the opportunity to race in about 10 years. Last month there were only seven Pro Mods competing at PRP and four of them were definitely not coming this weekend. Kevin Bealko and Chip Forman were both running the ADRL race in Virginia, John Camp’s car isn’t repaired yet from his mishap last month and the **** Lockwood car that Pat Moore drives wasn’t expected because of previous non-racing commitments for several team members. But mark Malcuit showed up as did Andy Jensen for one of his few outings this season, Ron Solyan brought The Animal along with Dan Ferguson’s Firebird, and PRP regulars Tony Fagnilli Dave Trapletti and Tony Desiderato helped fill up the field. Tony Desiderato was driving a new-to-him Rick Jones built 2009 Ford Mustang that was formerly driven in Pro Stock by Doug Kirk. Tony also intends to run the car in Pro Stock. He broke a transmission in qualifying and had to sit out eliminations. Jim Kulbrick also had to sit out eliminations. Ron Solyan’s “The Animal” Nova burned a piston in the second qualifier. Ron showed me the spark plug; it not only burned the end off but had burned through part of the hex portion of the plug. Don’t doubt John Vergotz commitment to the Asphalt Wars races. After experiencing some electrical issues at Thompson last week he sent the car to Jerry Bickel’s for repair. Two of his crew guys, Mike Stabline and Kevin Humphries took the car to St. Louis and then straight to Pittsburgh for this race. Mike DiDomenico is now four-for-four in Asphalt Wars action in 2012 and, as is typical of a winning streak in drag racing, not every run Mike makes is stellar, but they all end with the win light shining in his lane. Mike shook and spun in the final round of Outlaw Dragster but it didn’t matter as Paul Molnar left just a bit too soon and lit the red light. It was the third race in a row that DiDomenico didn’t make a full pass in the final, but he won them all. Buzz McElwee said he changed a bunch of stuff on the Powershield Coatings car and it showed in the performance as the car got quicker every round. 3.95 and 3.94 in qualifying and a pair of 3.88’s in eliminations left the team in high spirits after the race. Paul Molnar and Dave Quisenberry strung together five wins in Asphalt Wars action last season. This year they have yet to hit the winner’s circle but they had to be pleased with the performance of the Absolute Machine Tools car at PRP. They broke in to the 3.7’s for the first time this season with a 3.77 in round one and a 3.78 in the semis. There will be a full report on High Octane Racetalk Monday June 25th. The show airs on Cool 101.7 FM in Meadville PA from 6-8 PM Eastern Time. Artie “Buzz” McElwee will join us at 7 PM and we’ll go in to the drag racing results after that. You can listen to the show online at: www.cool1017online.com The call in line is 814-333-9011 There will also be a report on Rappin’ on Racin’ at 8:15 Monday. Track Prep was on point tonight. May have been the sun and air temp heating the top end of the track or something similar. If something different was done with the track prep, write it down and repeat every time their weather conditions are similar to this evening. The starting line was very good, and the top end, which is usually a bit slick, was in the best condition I have ever seen at PRP, especially at the vicinity ~900ft out. Great job Keith and PRP crew on the track prep and the quick clean-ups. John

woohoo, i finally won Rd. 1... took me 8 races... course i won it cause the other lane went red... and won Rd. 2 for the same reason... not the best way to win, but a win still, right? still a rookie though, just taking baby steps... and i'm a slow learner... 2X48 Pittsburgh Raceway Park pump gas NA 406 1.52 7.17 11.32 117 still a rookie

Win is definitely a win! Congrats on getting some round money too! Just keep getting seat time and making the car consistent, and you'll string 6 rounds together for a class win. Keeping the car at a consistent temp will really help too. thanks chuck! and thanks for the tips... yeah, i'm learning it, little by little... like you say, i need tons more seat time... and i'm getting my car itself dialed better, she was a mess and is still not quite stable yet, getting there... once i figure out all my mechanical issues, and get her tuned correctly and everything working correctly, should make things a little easier... see ya saturday if you're gonna be there 2X48 Pittsburgh Raceway Park pump gas NA 406 1.52 7.17 11.32 117 still a rookie

Rich, you're doing all the right things. That carb was a huge improvement, and now that you found that fan wiring thing, that will help your consistency as well. Keep on logging! Yep, will be there Saturday, drinking lots of water! Shelby, I think we'll be fine showing up normal time. Crowd won't come til we're well under way.
