Got my hair cut yesterday and heard a local pizza place "fired" all their employees. They would be opening up after a given period but you would have to fill out and application and rehire was not a given. Seems pretty clear to me they are cleaning out all seniority and what ever pay raise schedule that may entail.

Here's some more information of first coronavirus response act.....

https://www.bkd.com/alert-arti...employer-tax-credits

The emergency paid sick leave benefit provides the following:

Small to midsize employers are required to provide 80 hours of paid sick leave to full-time employees

For part-time employees, paid sick time amounts to the number of hours the employee would work, on average, over a two-week period

Ensures paid sick leave covers days when any of the following occur:

An employee’s child’s school or day care is closed
An employee or a family member whom the employee cares for is quarantined due to COVID-19
The employee is experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 and is seeking a medical diagnosis

Enables employees who work under a multi-employer collective bargaining agreement to receive sick pay based on hours worked

These wages are exempt from the employer’s
portion of Social Security tax and an additional payroll tax credit is allowed for the amount of Medicare tax paid on those wages

There's also Emergency Family & Medical Leave Expansion

Tax Credits for Paid Sick & Paid Family & Medical Leave

Other Benefits Provided Under the Act

Just read the link.

How do some small businesses that make ends meet month to month afford this?

I've learned that government overreach is ever growing and the progression of socialism, regardless of political party, is pervasive.

I'm glad I'm not in business anymore. That would have bankrupted me. I understand that this isn't really an effort to help people though. It's a desperate effort to keep the economy from sliding further. The last thing we need is further slide and a housing market collapse.

I think its a opportunity to see how far they can get in controlling the people. I don't think it was started for that reason or anything, just a "hey lets see if we can kind of thing".

Funny as hell at number of first time gun buyers there are. How little they know about gun laws.Thinking these are same one who have been calling us gun lovers, idiots for years.

You know, I do see some working across the isle now. But the press.....many of them cannot sensationalize this enough.
During the press conference today, I reporter implied that Trump was giving Americans "false hope" with the suggestion that some currently available drugs could be a tool in fighting Wuhan Corona. How dare he be positive and spread any hope?!
Then they show the hospitals in the most affected areas and the doctors get on and compare it to a scifi movie. And the news claims that they are having to choose who gets treated and who dies. 16k people have overwhelmed our hospitals to the point where they have make these choices? What about sending folks to a hospital up the damn road?
Spreading panic everywhere.

Most of the "Reporters" who attend the White House Press briefings take that opportunity to raise their public image to Celebrity status. Some of the questions are aimed at embarrassing the President and his Staff so they get their faces on Television.

One of them, Nancy Cordis use the time to accuse the President of making a racist remark about the origin go the Coronavirus. Well Mss. Cordis it wasn't because the virus originated in China it was because they hid the the gravity of the danger, in some cases placing people in jail who tried to warn the World. The result was that thousands died and thousands more will also die. That my dear qualifies China as the origin of the Pandemic, not the color of their skin you snarky brainless little twit. I would use another term but Scott would delete the message.

My son is an ER doctor and he was called by the director of medicine and was told to prepare for a shelter in place order Sunday night. I hope he has bad info because he said it could last a month.

Yes thanks for asking. I guess a nursing home near Chicago had an outbreak. So the gov shut down the state. In reality it doesn’t affect that many more people than are already affected. We will keep the plant running as long as we have healthy people to work and raw materials.
Can’t go out to eat so I more time in the shop putting the car back together.
I have a cold now which means every cough gives me plenty of space.

Just Read on Class Racer, Racers- father and son both have the virus and both critical on ventilators. We should be taking this very serious. Take the precautions and be safe. Listen to what they are saying. It’s here, it’s bad, let’s deal with it.

The critical issue is the well being of Nurses and Doctors, we lose them and this will no longer be manageable.

Keep your eye on the ball folks, do all you can to prevent the spread of the virus failure is not an option. This is NOT a "one time only" virus and currently there is no proven cure.

Let's not underestimate all the other folks we depend on. What if the folks that run your waste water treatment plants get sick? How about the truckers delivering medical supplies and food? What if all the bankers get sick? Water? Electricity? Add widespread power outages to widespread sickness and things get interesting quick. What about those in manufacturing? 3m is pumping out masks as fast as possible. That grinds to a halt and hospital workers will all be wearing bandannas. No single group is more important. We need em all. We are getting through this I have no doubt.
We are Americans, and even in the sad state that many people have let themselves get to in life, we are stronger than we realize. But we need to work together. And shoot half the media maybe.

I have to admit that when I started this thread on March 5,I thought this was not a real threat.

I just got back from CVS to pick up a couple things and there definitely seems like a haze in the store like when you are at a drag strip.

This is not the pleasant smell of race fuel or even nitro.

There is definitely something going on here very serious. For once, the media isn't lying.

We are being attacked by China.Be safe out there.

Well, let's see how they cooperate with "WORKING TOGETHER " and sharing data on this.Maybe that was a little harsh at the moment, but time will tell.

Interesting to read this thread, 2 weeks and boy things have changed.
If you go back and read old news about it you see that it was concentrated on people with a higher pay grade. If this spreads enough down the pay scales to the working people it will be interesting to see the change over the next 2 weeks. Not as much of a hoax and joke as many made it out to be. I wonder how so many people can work at home, won't be much need for that if someone isn't physically doing what they pushed a button and told them to do.

There are tons of those kinds of jobs. I work in an essential industry in which there is no physical product. We could all work from home with almost no impact.

I realize I am one of the lucky ones right now.
