Clint, the detour doesn't look bad, and I'm hoping it will be truck and trailer friendly, as the big rigs will be taking it too. Another friend of mine made the same suggestion, to go up 79 to 80. He said it adds about 20 miles.

Chuck the detour isn't bad just when you make the turn off of 18 it is a windy and somewhat narrow uphill road and you got to pay attention when you top the hill for the next left turn to get back onto the pike. I run that road all the time but never with my trailer, never had to.
I didn't think it would add 20 miles but never measured from norwalk to prp. It is 80 miles from prp to my place on west side of new castle and another 130 to norwalk so past my place would be 210 from prp to norwalk.

Chuck I just got to thinking and realized the detour you posted isn't the way I am thinking. The detour they show you will cost you a buck or two to drive one mile of 376 but if you get off turnpike towards new castle on 18, I believe they call it north then make a left at 2nd redlight(koppel) you can get back on turnpike at top of the hill without having to get on 376 and is the same distance as posted detour. At the top of the hill you make a left then just follow the signs, only 1/2 mile after you top the hill and make the left till you are back on turnpike.

Brian, both sides:

Pennsylvania Turnpike to Close October 19 between New Castle and Beaver Valley Exits

Five-hour, overnight closure is necessary for overhead bridge removal.

Sunday, October 20, 2013

Weather Permitting

The Pennsylvania Turnpike alerts motorists that the Turnpike (I-76) will be closed eastbound and westbound between the New Castle Interchange (Exit #10) and Beaver Valley Interchange (Exit #13) starting at 11:59 p.m. Oct. 19 until 5 a.m. Oct. 20. Exiting traffic will use these approved detours:

EASTBOUND TRAFFIC Exiting at New Castle
Go straight off of exit ramp to State Route 351 (1 mile)
State Route 351 East (2 miles)
State Route 18 South (1.5 miles)
Re-enter the Turnpike (I-76) at Beaver Valley Interchange

WESTBOUND TRAFFIC Exiting at Beaver Valley
State Route 18 North (.3 miles)
State Route 351 West (3.3 miles)
Toll I-376 East (1 mile)
Re-enter the Turnpike (I-76) at the New Castle Interchange
The length of the detour is approximately 4.5 miles.

Alternate-route cards will be available to exiting travelers at the interchanges during the closure. Expect higher traffic volumes on the detour roads.

Message boards will be placed to inform customers of the closure, and Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) broadcasts at station 1640 AM also are being used to inform travelers.

The closure is needed while crews remove the overhead bridge that carries Norfolk-Southern railroad traffic over the Turnpike at milepost 12.67 in Homewood Borough, Beaver County with a completion date of Fall, 2015. Work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions and other circumstances.

Chuck,
I believe it is closed between 376 and beaver valley exit or route 18. That is why they are sending you to route 376 to get back on. From 376 to ohio on the pike has to be open because there is no other entrance or exit till you get to ohio.
If I was coming from pittsburgh on the pike I would get off towards new castle(which would be a right off the exit) and just got to 2nd red light make a left and when you top the hill which is a mile or two watch for sign at top of hill and you will be making a left then go about 1/4 mile then a right and that will put you on the turnpike without paying any additional tolls and is probably shorter. Both ways puts you back on the turnpike in the exact same spot.

Turned into a non issue for us. We rolled through right about 5, and it was open, work was finished.

Congrats to Mia Tedesco for making it down to 5 cars at the Million!! And no slouch in losing either... both .015 on the tree, she's .008 under, opponent .007 under!

Congrats to Matt Obertanec, getting the W in no box on Sunday at Norwalk, for the Classic opener race!

Weather is looking pretty good for Saturday, knock on wood. Looks like I'll be rocking the mic for it, so I hope there are a lot of entries in the gamblers race.

Steve, GobbleFest is just a fun race. Street cars/trucks only, index gets set between 20.00 and 29.99. It's fun to watch people and their strategies... go down to the stripe and park it, then try to cross before the opponent, having the passenger use a stopwatch, some try to coast and count. Rules are up on the PRP site now too.

The return of GobbleFest! Saturday, November 23!
11-06-2013

This is no turkey of a race! It's an absolute blast, a fun way to wind up the season. Gobblefest is racing and lunch, and who doesn't like that combination, especially when the lunch is a Thanksgiving style spread with turkey and the trimmings? There will be at least 2 races, index style. What is an index race? It's a bracket race, where red lights and breakouts are losses still, but we set the dial in for the entire class! Here are the rules:
* Daily driven cars and trucks only! No motorcycles or racecars.
* Event will be rain or shine.
* Passengers allowed. All drivers and passengers must wear seat belts.
* 2 drivers can double enter with the same car. (This can make for some dinner table bragging rights between spouses, siblings, etc!) Must use 2 numbers on car.
* No other form of double entry allowed.
* Index will be randomly set for each race, in the 20.00 to 29.99 range
* First race - .500 sportsman tree, deep staging allowed (both may change for race 2).
* Forward staging only. NO TURNING OUT BULBS AND BACKING UP!
* NO BURNOUTS!

Entry fee details to follow, payout to at least winner and runner up, to be determined by number of entries. Gates open at 9:30am, time trials for race 1 start at 10:30am. Lunch at 12:30pm, followed by race 2. In order to have enough food for all, please let us know you're coming, by emailing your name and how many are coming with you, to amber@pittsburghracewaypark.com

so for the forward staging rule at the turkey race thats still the same as it is anywhere correct?... Basically they mean YOUR LAST MOTION MUST BE FORWARD?...

What im getting at is, i can still roll in deep, go back to full stage then bump deep when im ready??? Sounds like it too me. Just that your final staging motion is forward and not backward...

Nick, no. There is no backing up allowed at all, though the starter will have discretion (like for a first timer who blows past the beams, tries to stage at the tree, etc). The main intention for the GobbleFest is for everyone to have fun.
