Hey guys, I need some opinions from the powerglide racers.

I broke a planetary in my dragster in September. I have it apart now and it had new stock helical 1.76 gears in a reinforced planetary carrier. I am looking to upgrade to a 1.8 straight cut gear planetary. I have done some research into prices and have come up with the following:

Rossler: $995(1 yr warranty) or $1295 (2 year warranty)
Abruzzi: $900(1 yr Warranty)
JW: $877(1yr Warranty)
BTE : $999(2 yr warranty)
ATI: $999(1 yr warranty)
TCI: $1,200(1 yr warranty)
Trans Specialist: $999(2 yr Warranty)
Godley: $895(1 yr Warranty)
ATD: $1,200 (1 yr warranty)
Smith Racing Transmissions: $699(1 yr warranty) Claims to be a bulk buyer and reseller of Trans Specialties gear sets
Sloan Racing Transmission $720 (2 yr warranty) Claims to be a bulk buyer and seller of BTE gear sets.

What do you guys run and what would you do? Would you buy from the claimed resellers?

Bob, I have no familiarity with Powerglides. However, all I need to know is that Scotty Campbell made 20 passes in 1 day on the Sunday of GGG last year with a Rossler glide, on top of all the passes he made throughout the season. For me, proof doesn't get any better.

BEEP BEEP BEEP News Flash hot off the desk of Greg Miller PRP Track Manager. All the voting is done and the decision in, the IHRA Division 3 Team Bracket Finals comes to Pittsburgh Raceway Park again for the 2010 season. More information on the Bracket Finals will be posted next year. This was a majority vote among all the division 3 racetracks. We would like to thank all those that voted for PRP in 2010.

If you buy from a well known trans Co. You stand a pretty good chance of getting a tranny that will live. Price will vary from one to the other as you can see on the gear price list.
From what I understand their are only 2 or 3 Co.'s that make the gear sets for everyone else.
I don't know your car/engine combo, but if you are a door car over 2300 lbs and are making serious torque then spend the money on a good input shaft and aftermarket case. making a tranny live depends on:
Fluid level
Fluid temp
How often you change fluid
who does the rebuild
parts compared to race combo.
we use a rebuilder in Wheeling that has been a racer for years and is up on all the latest developements.
If I can be of any help call
cell number is on my web site.
OBVIOUSLY ......

Mr.Spelic,

Just as Bob J said no smack talk or bull just trying to help out, as Chuck stated I am a Rossler fan, the tranny in my old dragster had over 700 passes on it in three years and was not touched once and never came out of the car. I support the people and company's that help me out and Rossler stickers and Trannys are on board in all 3 of the cars so I am more than happy to support him with any type of business I can. They are all good builders and everything breaks and everyone has there favorites and opinions. Hope this helps good luck

Christine just posted on CaringBridge about an hour ago that Mark's surgery is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. tomorrow. We all need to cover him in prayer at that time tomorrow. I will be praying for strength for Mark, for wisdom for the doctors who are caring for him and comfort for Mark and the whole family. He needs us all to lift him up. Praying

Update from Sonya....

They took Mark for surgery at 8:00am on the nose. So, it has been four and a half hours so far and we are still waiting for word from the doctor that surgery is completed.

We are all doing fine. Its lunch and apple pie time.

Christine and Joe took a nap, I will post pics later.

Update more later...We love you all...keep praying!

SONYA

I should be going down to see him in the next few days and will try to update how they are all doing as well. Mark (Big Brewer as most of us call him) has been like a father to me since I became friends with Markie and since loosing my father suddenly, he really has been a role model and shown me care and love like one of his own children and to that i am extremely thankful. It is truly amazing how much love, support and help one man can give! we are all praying for you Big Brewer! Ryder says hi!
Hang in there Ma, when you need to get away stop over my place and hold your grandson ( or nephew if it makes you feel younger)

3.46. Out of surgery. Tumor was removed and Dr said they got it all, and in 1 piece. Also surrounding tissue was removed. Sounds like it is "mission accomplished" on this day. Important first step.
