In 2000 when the USS Cole refueled in Yemen's port of Aden, Navy brass were so concerned about appearing to be "sensitive guests" that sailors patrolling the decks were not allowed to carry loaded weapons, nor did the destroyer deploy "picket boats" and establish a defensive perimeter-even though Yemen had only recently been taken off of the State Department's list of countries that sponsored terrorism.
All this pandering to imaginary foreign sensitivities made it pitifully easy for an al qaeda motorized skiff packed with explosives to approach the destroyer and blow a hole in its side, KILLING SEVENTEEN SAILORS!
TWO HOURS after this entirely avoidable attack, another motorized skiff approached the stricken vessel. A sentry raised his rifle only to be told by his superior, "let me tell you someting about the rules of engagement. You cannot point a loaded weapon at these people, that is an act of AGGRESSION."

If she understands that almost a quarter of the people who are looking for work have no chance of finding it, then she has a pretty good grip on reality. If she understands that US corporations have oursourced and continue to send labor overseas, leaving a wake of underemployed and unemployed, while paying their CEO's more for doing it, then she has it figured out. If she understands that by the time she is of working age, the wealthiest 1% in this country will control 70% of the wealth and most of the leadership in this country, and about the best chance she has of being one of the haves is to start out as one when she fell out of the bucket, then she understands pretty well. I don't think i would be in a hurry to bring her up to speed on this stuff. Ignorance is bliss. Let her enjoy it while she can.
