I run this race 2 years back for the 1st time. I was sick the whole time but enjoyed the event!

Wanted to run one of these races Tucson or Barona. Looks like Tucson faired a little better for getting the races done. Maybe next year for one of them.

Well the falcon is down for the count. I pulled the engine to replace motor mounts and track down an oil leak. Took the pan off to change the rear main seal and found the thrust bearing had failed and worn a .100" deep groove into the crank thrust face. A weld repair would cost as much as a new crank so here we go. Everything else still looks new.
I have a 289 under the bench that will go in to pinch hit until I can get the good engine back up and running.

I'm not in a bad mood, I just look that way.........

Good thing you found it Dan! As for the 289. I'm sure it will pinch hit just fine. Wink

Well, we are loading/hooking up tomorrow. Rubber meets the road & track Sat. morning. Taking the drag quad to the track for some testing. Hopefully everything goes without a hitch.

TnT report, the good & bad; most of it was bad!

Myself & the quad was not getting along very well yesterday. I totally had my head up my butt & it seems like the older I get, the worse it gets.

The first two passes were flat out embarrassing. I couldn't get it off the line without it bogging & darn near killing the motor. Then gurgling down the track & not clearing out.

We did get 2 semi-respectable passes in with: decent reaction times, no bogging, no gurgling but for some reason we were about a second slower in ET. We are going to make a few minor changes for next weekend's races. We'll be slow but I think we have a raceable/competitive combo. Thank goodness, it's a bracket race!

Getting ready for rubber to meet the road & track tomorrow. We have a TnT on Fri. & our first two points races on Sat. & Sun.

I'm looking forward to this year because we are going back to S/Pro for the 1st time since around 2014. While we will not be using the delay box the majority of the time. We do have it installed & will use it occasionally. Some understand why I have it installed & some do not!

I'm going to have to be on top of my game for this endeavor & hopefully it helps with my interim goals; to help with my main racing goal for this year.

2BKING: I don't know how this weekend is going to turn out. Hopefully I can get a few round wins. Regardless, you will get the racing report good or bad. Smile

In S/P do they mix the dragsters with the door cars starting rd1?

Hi Bryan:
Next weekend, Friday (6th) and Saturday (7th), (Nothing on Sunday). RJ (619) 647-5183 has a list but I don't know who is on it, you will get a lot of hits Friday, $90 for Friday, single runs, time slips will probably be in the tower unless they find someone to work the booth on the return road.

Call Lee Brothers at (760) 390-0070 when you get close on Thursday so he can open the gate for you.

Bob

Saturday is the Match Race Madness event, and maybe some of the Index classes. I expect there will be a sizable group since it's the first event of the year.

Started TnT with a .000 reaction & the next two passes were low .1x

Car is about .2 slow & down 5 mph! We think the O2 sensor is reading different. It got moved forward & is configured differently. I made a change in the tune to fatten it up.

I'm happy with the reactions but not the .000! Hopefully I can get my ET/mph back & go some rounds tomorrow.

Do you think the O2 mounted 45* (pointed downstream) to the pipe instead of perpendicular could be an issue? It is behind the collector merge.

That's the way we had mounted before but we moved it forward .5". Also on the old headers the mount was on the evac tube that was still in the collector. We also had the slip on collectors fully welded. We also had some leakage on the V-band clamps at the muffler on the old set-up. I used high temp sealant this time.

So, as you can imagine, there's little to no leaks now from what I had previously.

Here's the scoop on the 1st day of the season in S/Pro.

I went out in the 1st round. I had a .006 light not using the box to my opponents .001. I dialed a 6.04 & thought I was holding .01 but ended up running 6.02 taking .033 at the stripe. I failed my execution plan at the stripe!

Tomorrow is another day.

Made it to the 2nd round yesterday. Had a .011 light to my opponent's .012 & lost. I couldn't run the number, need to get this tune fixed; it sucks!

Overall, I was happy with my lights for not using a box. I pulled the box out; it wasn't hooked up but played part of looking like it was. It was another one of my dumb ideas. Roll Eyes

Got a good amount of work to do with my holding strategies against these mid 4.50 dragsters.

Leaving this Thurs. for Barona to run a 5.80 index race.

Rubber meets the road tomorrow morning, heading for Barona Drags; It's a 6-hour drive. I'll get parked & settled in & should meet up with Bob (RPROGAS) tomorrow evening.

We have testing on Fri. & I'll be racing the 5.80 Index Class on Sat. Planning on having fun like I did in Nov. 2025, when I was last there.

I had to scramble to get some car issues fix from this past weekend's racing. Our 5.70 bracket tune was a mid 5.9x - 6.0x tune. & it lost 5-6 mph in the 1/8th. I found an exhaust leak because of a stripped header bolt thread/blown out gasket. Of course, it was on the O2 sensor side. I also found the timing had retarded 2* from our commanded timing. We'll find out Fri. if these issues are the smoking gun with our power loss.
