Tomorrow is "D Day" (Decision day) in California. That's the decision to once again shut down the economy. Our Politicians don't have a problem, they continue to draw an income while everyone else is forced to stop working. If their income stopped that "D Day" decision would be entirely different.

You and your Family are far more likely to die from starvation than from the virus, and starvation is very real when your income totally stops. Just look at the homeless folks living in the streets, that could be you if the economy stops for an extended period. It doesn't matter WHO the President is, Biden, Trump or Clarabell the friggin Clown....no income = NO FOOD or housing.

Here is my suggestion about State Governors and City Mayors closing businesses due to the virus.

If you are going to order businesses to close and stop their income then stop receiving your pay check as well.

I know it's a lot more entertaining to polarize on this. But my take is in the middle.
It's not fake overall. Several on my team at work had symptoms and tested positive. Different than your run of the mill flu, and maybe not as severe. The difference seems to be how contagious this is. It really spreads. And just like the flu, you don't want elderly getting it.
I'm against government mandating pretty much anything. Including stuff related to covid.

But....I'm no anti masker. I don't want to spread it unwittingly. Who knows who I could give it to and how bad it would be for them? Plus, at work it is terribly disruptive. Because it is so easy to spread, once you get one or two people with it, contact tracing can really impact your workforce with quarantines.
But if you are vigilant and careful, and protect yourself, and not attack others for whatever their actions are, you can be pretty safe.

The worst thing really is the isolation for people. We can argue til forever about the virus. But right now it is affecting people in all sorts of ways. Mentally. What we CAN and Should do is reach out to help how we can. We can disagree or agree with the covid thing, but also be HUMANS.

I question why Home Depot, Lowes, Harbor Freight, Wal-Mart, Costco, Sports Teams (Football, etc.) and groceries chains (there is home delivery available) can remain open but every small business is ordered to close.

I get and agree with the reason to mitigate the spread of the virus, just question why certain businesses can continue to operate normally without restrictions.

I shy away from conspiracy theories for obvious reasons. I'm afraid the word you're looking for is fascism (the merge of corporation and government). They run the mom & pop shops out of business (after all there is a lesser crowd in a small store that a large, of course distancing has to be considered) then use the corporate stores to enforce there mandates, without passing laws, such as mask wearing, the repeated drone of the PA system telling you you have to wear a mask to be in their store, standing on spots on the floor, etc. You can give that more or less credence as you see fit, but it is real to what ever extent.

The definition of essential is bizarre. Hardware stores hardly seem essential, until the toilet breaks. Geeze in our socialist state we can't dine in at all right now.
I'm not sure that the size of the business has had anything to do with forced closings. However, since the big stores offer so many things and services, they have a better chance of being deemed essential.
There are lots of weird decisions and policies right now IMO. But what gets me is all the mask bullies who make it their personal responsibility to talk down anyone who isn't behaving the way they deem correct. I went into a gas station today. Ended up right next to a guy not wearing a mask. I was wearing one. Why should I judge him or get irritated by the situation? That's silly. It really comes down to virtue signaling just like supporting defunding the police.

I don't think one can ignore the the political aspect as far as insider contacts (ivy league colleges), campaign contributions, etc. After all that's just the way the human animal behaves.

Initially it will be voluntary but he expects that if it is not totally complied with he will make it mandatory.

The Governor also announced that a family dwelling can no longer accommodate more than 6 family members. Therefore if you and your wife have five kids, one of them will be living in the back yard. That should be a treat when the temperature drops below 30 degrees, for example like where I live. They feel it is better to die from hypothermia than Covid.
