Our planet went through a dramatic change last month. Climate experts revealed that February was the warmest month in recorded history, surpassing the previous global monthly record – set in December. An unprecedented heating of our world is now under way. With the current El Niño weather event only now beginning to tail off, meteorologists believe that this year is destined to be the hottest on record, warmer even than 2015. Nor is this jump in global temperature a freak triggered by an unusually severe El Niño, say researchers. “It is the opposite,” said Professor David Vaughan of the British Antarctic Survey. “This is a catch-up of a recent hiatus that has occurred in rising global temperatures. We are returning to normality: rising temperatures. This is an absolute warning of the dangers that lie ahead.” Those dangers are now being dramatically demonstrated around the globe: drought in the Marshall Islands in the Pacific, which has forced the government there to issue a state of emergency warning; France observed its warmest winter since records began; while the sea ice that has formed in the Arctic this winter is about a million square kilometres less than its average for this time of year. This latter feature is likely to have particularly profound consequences. “A low sea-ice level in winter will definitely promote a low level of sea ice next summer,” said Vaughan. “Arctic summer ice – which is dwindling dramatically – is changing the region.” In particular, disappearing sea ice allows more and more ships to get to once unreachable regions in high latitudes. As a result, plans to drill for oil and gas in the Arctic – a prospect that horrifies many scientists and environmental groups – are being prepared by most major oil companies. Last month’s jump in global temperatures represents an increase of 1.35C above the average temperature level for the period 1951-80 and 1.63C above pre-industrial levels, taking global temperature for the month above the 1.5C rise that last year’s Paris climate was supposed to prevent. However, Professor Richard Betts, head of climate impact research at Exeter University, sounded a note of caution. “Last month’s figure is a one-off and it remains to be seen if temperatures are going to continue to rise this steeply,” he said. “We are still not at an established 1.5C rise, but there is no doubt this is a worrying sign.” Scientists and politicians are keen to hold global warming to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels because they fear that a world that warms to such a level will experience severe loss of ice, particularly from Greenland’s massive shield of glaciers, and that the melting will in turn trigger considerable rises in sea levels. Scientists warn there are many island states in the Pacific that will simply disappear if the planet undergoes that sort of warming. In addition, if the temperature increases to 1.5C, it will combine with ocean acidification driven by rising carbon dioxide emissions to dissolve the world’s already threatened coral reefs. “That is why last month’s temperature level was so significant – and worrying,” added Betts

The LID on the rain gauge must have slipped, the HOAXERS posted .62 inches of rain. instead of the .4 or .5 I predicted, yesterday! The HOAXERS must believe the HOAXEES get more stupid by the day, we had flooding all over the valley and people rescued because of flooding! Yesterday it drizzled all afternoon and rained steady a few times for short stretches! As I could have predicted the HOAXERS measured a "trace" of precipitation yesterday! It must have rained quite a lot during the night there were large puddles at the park today and it rained hard for a long time in the late AM and this afternoon. The pool level is up at least 3 inches! My prediction for the HOAXERS measurement for today will be .4 to .5 inches!!!!! TAKE IT TO THE BANK!!!!! Later, Bill Koski

OH Christ! Here we go again. The Nevada Nit Whit gets a little rain, his pools water level goes up a bit and it’s time to scream HOAX cause he doesn’t like what the guy on the TV said the amount of rain was. Oh Mon Dieu. It’s like the swallows returning to Capistrano, every year at the same time BS Billy starts babbling the same krap again, with about the same level of cognition as a swallow. Later Larry Sapere aude! Your first two questions and your answers to them are a bit of a non sequitur. They mean nothing; they have no relevant information content relating to global Warming. Simply making these statements in no way invalidates the fact that the inordinate rate of change in temperatures (among other things) is occurring or that mechanisms by which this change is occurring are not correct. No one ever said that climate change isn’t the norm; it’s the increased rate at which change is now occurring above and beyond what past experience indicates as normal that is the issue. So OK, exactly who was it that told you it was warmer and or cooler at various times in the past? Who exactly are these corrupt scientists you speak of? The same ones that told you it has been warmer and colder in the past? Those scientists? Please do site the people and studies that have been found to be false and who exactly has made these findings public and what their qualifications are to make such pronouncements as well as the data used in arriving at their conclusions. The Daily Mail, the Heartland Institute and any person or groups, like those below, who are funded by those whose bottom line might be positively impacted need not apply. The “corrupt science” or more properly ‘pseudoscience’ seems to all be on the side of the large energy companies, among others. Such as Peabody Energy, Arch Coal and Alpha Natural Resources to name a few, which after publication of their Chapter 11 filings it has become abundantly clear that they engaged in and contracted for pseudoscience and or denialist spokes persons/groups in an attempt to sow at very least doubt about the science and in many cases spread outright lies. The only real conspiracy in and about Global Warming/Climate Change are those ginned up by likes of those above and others whose only and ultimate concern is for their corporate or personal bottom line. As an inverse corollary of Occam’s razor, the more elaborate a conspiracy and the more people involved in that conspiracy, the less likely that conspiracy is to be true. By the lights of most around here at any rate, it seems they think nearly the whole of science is involved in “The Global Warming Conspiracy”, that in and of itself argues strongly against there being any such conspiracy. In days gone by one of the standard aphorisms was “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink”. Now days and particularly around here, I think an updated version should be, “You can lead of fool to knowledge, but you can’t make him think”. Mainstream science with computer modeling does make the argument, over and over and over again, in damn near ever field in and out of science and technology, computer modeling is as a science and technology ubiquitous. You name a field of endeavor and I am pretty sure there is a computer simulation that it is highly dependent on, if not entirely impossible to perform without. So your making bald faced assertions to the contrary are simply ludicrous. Do I really need to point out that the above graph four posts previous to this is not a simulation, but a visual representation of over a century of hard data, it’s a fact not a projection or simulation! Oh silly me, that’s right it is part of a global conspiracy involving damn near the whole of the scientific community, that only you and the crop of boffins around here has the intelligence and expertise to see through.
