WIND FARMS SEVERELY HARMFUL TO WILDLIFE, NEW STUDY FINDS -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A new study from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, combining an impressive six hundred other studies, describes the severe effects wind turbines can have on wildlife. Not only are the disturbances and noise of the building of turbines an issue but also the sound of the windmills rotating and electromagnetic fields (EMF) caused by transferring the electricity produced to the mainland. At the construction phase, for example, "extreme noise from pile-driving" is observed to cause "significant avoidance behaviour in marine mammals" and "highly likely to cause mortality and tissue damage in fish." On the noise of the blades there was "avoidance of the offshore wind farm (OWF) area by harbour porpoise, and possibly a habituation over time." EMF affects “cartilaginous fish, which use electromagnetic signals in detecting prey” and EMF could also disturb fish migration patterns.” The OWF “may also alter local biodiversity patterns and lead to undesired effects.” Onshore wind farms also have severe effects on animals and birds. A paper published in 2013 from Poland looked at domestic geese (Anser anser f domestica) bred 50m from a wind turbine against 500m for the control group. After twelve weeks monitoring noise levels and the stress measuring cortisol levels the researchers concluded: “Lower activity and some disturbing changes in behavior of animals from group I (50m) were noted. “Results of the study suggest a negative effect of the immediate vicinity of a wind turbine on the stress parameters of geese and their productivity.” In Portugal a study also found that foals born near wind turbines developed Equine Flexural Limb Deformities. Biologist Dr. Lynne Knuth, in a letter to the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin, testified: “The problems with animal reproduction reported in the wind farms in Wisconsin are lack of egg production, problems calving, spontaneous abortion (embryonic mortality), stillbirth, miscarriage and teratogenic effects: In chickens: Crossed beaks, missing eyeballs, deformities of the skull (sunken eyes), joints of feet/legs bent at odd angles. In cattle: missing eyes and tails.” While these effects seem to occur in the immediate vicinity of a wind turbine they are hugely important to humans. It has long been reported that those living near wind farms suffer from ill health. Sleep deprivation, headaches, tinnitus, balance problems, motivational difficulties and depression are just some of the alleged effects. Wind farms continue to be a controversial subject both on and offshore. Not only is the power in need of government subsidies, the comparative cost of producing a Megawatt (MWh) of power ranges from £60 to £65 for coal and gas through to £90 to £150 respectively for onshore and offshore wind farms. Certainly in the UK there is increasing resistance from the population, being the proverbial blot on the landscape. Many wind farm proponents point to psychogenesis and its subset psychsomaticism, where the person has the real symptoms but they are psychological induced, rather than physically induced. One has to say with animals it is highly unlikely. When the West Country band The Wurzels release a new record bemoaning wind farms, resistance has to be taken seriously. | |||

....................Climate change and the effects of global warming have been thoroughly and beautifully detailed on two sites. One is GlobalChange.gov, which features the White House’s National Climate Assessment report, and the other is WorldUnderWater.org, a website that uses Google Street view images to show users what their home cities would look under water. The GlobalChange.gov site features rich graphics, plenty of high-quality images and even social integration, resembling a touch-optimized site that sells high-tech products online in the Post PC era more so than a site meant to provide quick access to a very serious report about climate change. In addition to stunning visuals, the website provides lots of information about the current state of the climate, and how these changes will affect the planet in the future. For example, in the Oceans section – which can be directly tied to WorldUnderWater.org site – the report explains the changes oceans go through and what that means for their ecosystems, but also for the entire world. “Today, the world’s oceans absorb more than 90% of the heat trapped by increasing levels of CO2 and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere due to human activities, the report reads. “This extra energy warms the ocean, causing it to expand and sea levels to rise. Of the global sea level rise observed over the last 35 years, about 40% is due to this warming of the water. Most of the rest is due to the melting of glaciers and ice sheets. Ocean levels are projected to rise another 1 to 4 feet over this century, with the precise number largely depending on the amount of global temperature rise and polar ice sheet melt.” Separately, WorldUnderWater.org shows images of certain locations, picked up by using Google’s Street View feature, as they might be affected by rising oceans. The site also presents facts about the rising sea level and provides access to easily recognizable landmarks. Beyond that, users can also see how their own streets would look under water. They can even share any submerged Street View location they choose on Facebook and Twitter, including the Arc de Triomphe from Paris, France Jim, care to back up your misleading post in how water levels are dropping? At a solar installation in southern fruits-an-nuts-state people are witnessing birds drawn to the charged field above the panels ACTUALLY bursting into flames as they are flying!!!!! I AWAIT A HUMBLE APOLOGY!!!!! The HYPOCRISY from the "greenies" concerning wind and solar power is down right STAGGERING!!!!! These "greenies" are supposedly protecting every single living non-human in existence BUT millions of birds are flying into the windmills vortex and being chopped up, including protected species like bald eagles, and the heat above solar installations using mirrors to increase output is so intense that birds that are drawn there by a charged field above the solar panels are bursting into flames as they fly there!!!!! The IPCC data did show increasing temperatures. Then, in October 2009, someone broke into a British office of the CRU, downloaded 160 MB of data and emails, and posted them online. The stolen CRU emails show prominent scientists discussing ‘adjusting’ data to reduce Medieval Warming Period and hiding very recent cooling trends, and making sure they all agree and aren’t stepping on each others’ toes. Many of these discussions ended with instructions to delete all records of the conversation. Eventually a U.S. Senate inquiry was set up under chairmanship of Edward Wegman, professor of mathematics and statistics, and their report ruled that Penn State Professor and IPCC lead author Michael Mann’s work was ‘statistically invalid’. While some forecasts for the winter of 2012-2013 call for above average snowfall, the record for the coldest winter in the United States is expected to stand. The winter of 1978-1979 was the coldest winter on record for the contiguous United States, says Jake Crouch, a climate scientist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C. Conditions that winter (December through February) allowed the jet stream to dip further south, bringing prolonged cold air outbreaks across large portions of the nation. The coldest month of that coldest winter saw record low temperatures across much of the lower 48 states. January 1979 saw colder than normal temperatures everywhere but California and New England. A large swath of the country — from the northern Rocky Mountains to the central Mississippi Valley — suffered average temperatures 12-16 degrees below normal.
