Do you have even a remote clue, where the official air temp (TAIR) was recorded at? Air temps (TAIR) are taken at 1.5 meters above the ground, cold air sinks, meaning it’s colder at or near the ground and takes significantly longer for the air at ground level to warm up, much less to get warm enough to melt ice. Also meaning it might be 36 degrees at 1.5 meters in the air and below freezing at ground level during much of the night. Ever hear of something called heat of fusion (you have I’ve brought it up here before)? It’s how much energy (heat or temperature if you will) it takes to make a solid change to a liquid. Well the short answer is it takes about 80 times as much energy to change one gram of ice to water, as it does to warm one gram of air one degree. It’s no wonder that there are places where frozen water on the ground might stay frozen well into the day, even if the air temps get very warm, or water on the ground freezes over night even if the air temp (TAIR) never reached freezing.

My back of the napkin calculations says that the gas leak, while bad no doubt, hardly reaches one of the worst climate disasters ever, it is about one thousandth of one percent of the amount of CO2 put into the atmosphere in the same time period. Man puts about 6,027,397,260 lbs. an hour of CO2 into the atmosphere ever hour and has done so for many years. In four months, the estimated time to fix the leak, around a total of 288,000,000 lbs. will be released, so put another way, about 500 times as much CO2 will be released in one day as will be released by the leak in four months’ time. Yes sir, pimple on a pigs ars really does cover it.
