Lets post the rest of the story.........

The public debate surrounding the accord had mostly focused on the safety of Mexican trucks. But labor unions and other groups were strongly opposed to the agreement, which they say will cost Americans trucking and other jobs.
We know how TL and a few others don't like unions.

The U.S. Department of Transportation says the safety concerns have now been resolved. Electronic monitoring systems will track how many hours the trucks are in service. Drivers will also have to pass safety reviews, drug tests and assessments of their English-language and U.S. traffic sign-reading skills. Mexico has the authority to demand similar measures from U.S. truck drivers entering their territory.
Mr. Muck is in trouble....

But those won't do much to resolve the U.S. debate over the migration of jobs, which dates back to the NAFTA debates of the early 1990s. The question: Will a freer flow of cross-border cargo traffic boost business and allow owners to hire more workers, or will it ship U.S. jobs to Mexican drivers who work for lower pay?
Thats a no-brainer if they are non union.
LaHood argued the first position in a Wednesday statement.

"By opening the door to long-haul trucking between the United States and Mexico, America's third largest trading partner, we will create jobs and opportunity for our people and support economic development in both nations," he said.

The Teamsters Union was incensed. General President Jim Hoffa said the agreement was "probably illegal" because it goes further than a previously agreed-on pilot program and described it as "opening the border to dangerous trucks at a time of high unemployment and rampant drug violence."

Rep. Peter DeFazio, a Democrat from Oregon, introduced a bill Wednesday to block the administration from implementing the program, saying that his concerns about safety, security and job loss had not been met.

But other U.S. groups from the National Cattlemen's Beef Association to the National Christmas Tree Association celebrated the end of the punitive tariffs and hoped for higher sales. The tariffs tax $2.4 billion worth of U.S. exports according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, including tariffs up to 45 percent on certain fruits according to a trade group.

Those tariffs will be cut in half within 10 days and then eliminated completely when full cross-border traffic begins.

TL, do you side with the unions on this or do you side with your mexican cousins?????

Bob, I feel for the members of a union. As far as the leaders I see them as bad as government.
Look how your own union screwed workers while you got to keep your wage and benefits.

Who does Obama side with on this.........the answer is clear.

Can't blame Bush for this.

KABUL (Reuters) - New U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta arrived in Afghanistan on Saturday, saying he believed the strategic defeat of al Qaeda was within reach if the United States could kill or capture up to 20 remaining leaders of the core group and its affiliates.

Panetta, on his first trip since taking over the Pentagon on July 1, told reporters before arriving in Kabul that now was the time -- in the wake of the May killing of Osama bin Laden -- to intensify efforts to target al Qaeda's leadership.

"We're within reach of strategically defeating al Qaeda and I'm hoping to be able to focus on that, working obviously with my prior agency as well," said Panetta, who ran the CIA until the end of June.

"Now is the moment following what happened with bin Laden, to put maximum pressure on them. Because I do believe that if we continue this effort that we can really cripple al Qaeda as a threat to (the United States)."

Panetta declined to offer all the names of al Qaeda leadership the United States was looking at. But he singled out two men: Anwar al-Awlaki, an American imam who has become a senior leader of al Qaeda's Yemen-based affiliate, and Ayman al-Zawahri, who replaced bin Laden as the head of al Qaeda.

Panetta said he believed Zawahri was living in Pakistan's tribal areas, and "he's one of those we would like to see the Pakistanis target."

"I would say somewhere around 10-20 key leaders that between Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, AQIM (al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb) in North Africa. Those are, if we can go after them, I think we really can strategically defeat al Qaeda," he said.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The war in Iraq is winding down, Osama Bin Laden was found and killed, now Al Qaeda is soon to be defeated and troops can be on thier way home from Afghanistan.

All dumbya could do was put up a banner "Mission Accomplished" and spread false hope to the American ppl. He11, he couldn't even find those WMD's he fed to the American public in his Union address.

Now we will have to have another repub as President so we can start another war based on lies and deceptions.
Might as well keep it in the family and go with little jeb......

Lets see...give the Mescan drug cartels access to automatic weapons on OUR own soil! Let the Mexican carriers into the United States making it easier for the transport of drugs, human traf f i c k ing and moving cash back into Mexico?!?
Yes Boob you, support these type of transportation policies?!? No No
You see the Canadians DO NOT have full access to "interstate" commerce. They can only come into the U.S. to deliver their loads drive to the facility that has a return load BACK to Canada. They cannot say bring a load into the U.S. and move freight interstate in the U.S.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is "touting" cheaper freight using Mexican companies. IMHO that means U.S. driving jobs going out the door!
You see carriers like Schneider, J B Hunt, England, Swift etc. haul cheap freight based on volume. They in turn "sucker" people into buying their used tractors and leasing them back to the carriers for cheap rates! About 3 months into these "lease purchases" the "owner operater" is broke and starving trying to make his or her lease payments by hauling this cheap freight! So, the carrier takes the tractor back and releases it out to another sucker! Thats how they can haul cheap freiight...get a sucker obligated to the operating expenditures for said tractor, while the tractor is already paid for and fully owned by the carrier!
But, I'm sure an expert on the trucking industry like you Boobh already knew that!
If you don't know what your flapping your jaws about STFU!

Instead of flapping your jaws and suking wind, try to stay focused and add to topic.
We don't need another trucker causing an accident.

A person can have core values like I do or let their actions be controlled by ideology like the vast majority of liberals do!
A good example is the leftists burning hatred for President Bush and everything he did and now "dyck obama bin lyin'" is following in President Bush's footsteps on virtually everything and they adore "dyck obama bin lyin'".
I supported President Bush on national security but opposed his spending, signing the campaign bill, the drug bill and his support for amnesty for illegals!
