Local guy built my converter, JW flexplate. I always run a thread chaser (NOT A TAP) through the threads when it's out to clean out the loctite and make sure the threads are good. All mine screw in by hand with no issues. I think the gauntlet has been thrown. Ed has some sound advice and REALLY NICE STUFF. Trailer and car are top notch. He just cant help be a show off. He has some significant mental issues related to attention. He comes off as extremely arrogant and usually those persons are internally insecure. I for one try to weed through all the look at me, look at me comments for those rare nuggets of sound advice I may utilize to make an improvement. Yes says me and it's no secret here that I had been using ATI converters and flexplates and dampers for decades. Since 2019 we use BTE converters and transmissions in my cars. Great products that have been proven to perform consistently and WIN. Happy to represent. Now back to the OP's issue | |||

Here. I'll regurgitate what has already been said. I don't agree with using anti seize in this situation. I would and always use loctite on converter bolts. I would agree with the previous posts who recommended clearing treads with a tap to assure there isn't a bad thread at the top causing what feels like a cross threading started. I stripped a converter like this when I was 17 (young and dumb) and working on my 10 second race car (I'm 49). I think I have been around this glorious sport of ours long enough to participate. I also have a Mechanical Engineering degree. I think I can have an intelligent conversation on the pros and cons of many racing subjects. There are MANY THINGS I do not know. That is the difference between you and I. You seem to believe you know EVERYTHING. It is frankly nauseating. You don't believe anyone can teach you a thing or you choose to never allude to it anyway. You appear to have ZERO interest in actually helping anyone. You appear to desire hero worship, which is your sole purpose of 99% of your posts. Ed you have a wealth of knowledge but your not infallible. I wish you well on your endeavor. It's call CLASS (and they dont sell it here or in China) and nobody likes a bully. By the way you have a beautiful Firebird and trailer. Really nice stuff. You could be a whole lot more amenable in your online persona. Guys once you use these lock washers you will never use loctite again. They're a ratcheting step washer. Honestly amazing. I changed converters 6 times this year in 2 cars, 5 times with these and never had one loose once I used them. Had 3 loose total the first go round. I'd never use loctite on a bolt together converter which has thread inserts. These will fix any problem you have with them coming loose, bolt together or bolt through. AND they're reusable. | |||

The Nord Lock washers that "Collectorteathers" offers are the absolute best you can use for this application and at the best price. No anti-seize and no lock-tite. Given no other choice never re-use a conventional lock washer, the converter heat destroys their retention ability. A Nord-Lock washer can't back off, it's a ratchet type retention washer. Bob | |||

I’m amazed that there are so many issues of loose converter bolts. In 25 years of racing, 20 of them with two cars, I can count my loose converter bolts on my nipples and still have two left over. I think I’ve been using the same 3 grade 8 fine thread bolts and aircraft nuts in my Nova over the entire time period. Tony Leonard | |||

You're right you do. Just try to be a little nicer. You could be a great ambassador to our sport. I have never had a conveter bolt come loose either but I do think those washers are a better design. NORD LOCK has a good diagram on the design on their website. BG | |||
