Rubber meets the road & track tomorrow for a TnT & points races on Sat. & Sun. Tomorrow we are testing the new radials & hoping to tighten up our 60' variance some more. Not sure if the new tires will help. We are also working on the extension side of the rear shocks. We had them pretty loose & going to tighten them up some. While I don't think I was topping them out but might have been hitting the tire to hard. Also, for the new radials. I'm hoping to gain more mph in the 1/8th mile with the shorter tire & should raise the peak boost numbers higher also. All these changes/testing is for my main goal of winning the Pro class at the Spring Fling Million. That's a tall order to fill! I haven't lost my 2026 racing goals. I have pretty much stayed the course with a few changes & tweaks to my plan. I'm about a month away from the Spring Fling. I do feel a little behind on my plan & part of that is waiting on my new rocker arms so I can turn up the boost. https://drr.infopop.cc/eve/for...5460652/m/3467099207 2BKING ![]() 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3100 lbs. Went out 1st round today with a bad light. Good thing is we're narrowing down our 60' variance. We got it within a .003 variance today with tightening the extension on the rear shocks. I made a small 2 click adjustment for tomorrow. The main focus tomorrow will be on my lights! 2BKING ![]() 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3100 lbs. Pump Gas 436

Well had a somewhat wasted weekend . Took 11 hrs , road works , to get to Mildura . Arrive and weather is pretty terrible , mid 30s C high humidity etc . Friday day 1 is worse . Mid 3000s DA , blazing sun , track temp was 150F + . Track prep guru said spray wont be working so was dragged only I believe . So it was marginal with it being 50/50 who got down track . I spun 3 times though I probably should have loosened rear extension earlier. Saturday started better , at least had cloud cover and slightly cooler . Track was able to be sprayed . I readjusted rear shocks and went right down Broadway . Most people were also getting there . Then during the qual round weather moved in . Lots of lightening . Then as q4 finished it landed . Heavy winds and rain .Eased off then came back . Pits started to flood , there was about 6" of water on the start line . Event cancelled . Bugger . 12 hr drive home Sunday in heavy rain for 5hrs from 4am . Well I better enter for the Riverbend Nationals @ Dragway at the Bend in March , only a 15 hr drive . But is 1/4 mile and super smooth fast track . Tex

Saturday a mixup in the lanes and my pair changed to Tyler Smith. We had a great race my .012 to his .041 for some reason the car laid over just before the shift light and I couldn't cover the dial 3 off to his dead 8 taking .008 Sunday .004 red dead 0 CRAP I'm not in a bad mood, I just look that way.........

Well, it wasn't pretty but making it to the semi's not using a box in S/Pro feels pretty good! I screwed it up by a .001 breakout on the brakes taking the stripe by.029. This was against a 4.59 dragster. I did have him on the tree by.010 I made myself some luck with a .001 light in the 2nd round & that seemed to be the talk in the staging lanes: along with no delay box. Some people get why I'm not running with a box & a few just don't get why I don't put a box in; especially when I tell them I have a couple at home. I have 1 TnT & 2 points races before the Spring Fling Million. With all the changes I've been making, I need to focus on baselining my adjustable switch & buckle down on my focus on the tree. 2BKING ![]() 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3100 lbs. Happy Sunday kids. Raced yesterday,,,, or maybe I should say, tried to race? 1st run off the trailer, I was .01 green RT with a good solid run. Felt pretty good about myself. Next pass, -.06 red, then waited to shift into 3rd a bit too long and slowed way down. Still, 60' time was near identical, so I figured I had an idea on how to dial. That red light also brought me back into reality. Next pass was .100 green, (overcompensate from that red much? LOL), and couldn't get into 4th gear. When I pulled 4th, it kicked the shifter back and out of my hand. Ran tranny through all 4 gears afterward and felt fine, so I bought back in. Next pass I felt distracted as I staged, and proved that with a -.3 red RT. Had problems getting into 2nd gear this time, as it tried kicking the shifter back again so I just coasted to the return road. On the return road I took it easy, hit all 4 gears and it refuses 4th gear completely now. Initially after that 3rd pass, I thought my hand slipped off the shifter, causing me to miss 4th gear, but watching the in car video at the end of the day, it appears to have kicked it back and out of my hand. Shoulda known better I suppose, but running it through all 4 gears later sold me on being OK. Been planning on running the IRHA race at GALOT in 2 weeks. That's uncertain now. Planning to pop the top off the tranny either later today or tomorrow and see what I've done. Got a local guy that fixed it for me last year before I got it driving again, but he's a busy busy fella and I doubt he'll be able to get to it in time. Despite my failures, I still had a good day at the track with friends. Assuming I haven't just cost myself too much in repairs, I'm sure I'll be back in time to run some CCRA and Gear Jammer races this season. Y'all have a great week. Bracket racing is alive and well in DFW. 115 entries in super pro yesterday at XRP Texas. My day ended round 3 when I drew one of the Pennington bros in one of their badass 34 roadsters. I gave him a good race, his .010 to my .012 on the tree but I was .008 behind at the stripe

Tomorrow the rubber meets the road & track. We are setting records for heat in Vegas & of course we race right in the middle of peak temps! This is my last weekend of racing before the Spring Fling Million. I hope to improve on my last outing & get into the finals. My car doesn't like temps above 80*, but I have options. The last races I found my rearview mirror when turned to the right picks up the dragsters pretty good out the rear window & passenger window. I prefer to run in the left lane. When I get put in the right, I have small convex mirror on the pillar bar; it works ok & better than not having it. As for the Fling races, I'll be chasing the majority of the time in Pro. Then hopefully mix in with S/Pro & then I have to go back to the mirrors. I feel pretty good about my preparation for the Fling; proof is in the pudding. You will get or see the results good, bad or in-between! 2BKING ![]() 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3100 lbs. Pump Gas 436

TnT yesterday, car was good even though it was hot. The driver was a little off on reaction times. Part of it was having to run against the career test & tuners. They sure do f..k the shyt out of the process. 2BKING ![]() 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3100 lbs. Pump Gas 436

Gotta love that. You are bumped in, and someone sets there till they are almost timed out then takes a chunk.... Or you are trying to get a good consistent run after you made some changes, and the kid with the ricer is taking 10 minutes after you did the burnout, so his girlfriend can live feed it on facebook.... Or they don't even know how to stage and the guy running the starting line has to show them how to stage. A couple times I literally gave up and just idled down the track and didn't even make a pass. Why, when the car is hot, and the tires are cold? lol

Went to the semi-finals again. Cutting killer lights with no-box! The box guys are trying stupid games against me. I've got them pinned on the ropes & they don't like it. The bad thing is my glide is giving up. It shuddered pretty good on the 1 to 2 shift & the fluid is slightly burnt. Calling Hughes transmission on Mon. to hopefully get a new one next week. The Spring Fling Million is the end of the month. Going to nueder the tune tonight & hopefully limp it through a couple rounds tomorrow. 2BKING ![]() 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3100 lbs. Doesn’t sound good. Hope you’re able to get through without braking. Curious, what trans temps are you seeing and what fluid brand are you using?
|
| DRR S/Pro |
^^^Just a thought. If you do damage something in the trans, do you risk it getting into the converter?

I neutered the power & went out in the 3rd round today. Car is unloaded & on 4 jackstands with the fluid drained. Plan on pulling the trans tomorrow. M&M, I haven't checked the trans temp since going to the ProCharger. I have no pan sensor & we used to shoot the pan with a heat gun when were NA. In hot daytime temps with a good many passes we on saw 160* max. We use ATI synthetic Super F. I found no metal in the fluid, just slightly discolored & has that burnt smell. Hope Hughes has a trans on the shelf or can Shyt one this week! The trans we had was only rated for 1100 hp. We're going to upgrade. Going to have a busy week, hope this old body can keep up. 2BKING ![]() 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3100 lbs. Pump Gas 436

^^^^^ Good report. Agreed, a stronger trans is needed. Hope you get it done! Have a temp sensor bung installed in the pan of the new one too!!!

I'm exhausted, it sucks getting old! Busy morning getting the transmission out, took me about 2.5 hrs. total working off the floor. Last time I remember pulling just the transmission it was only about an hour job, but that was many...many moons ago. I prefer to pull the motor & trans as one unit & considered doing it this time. Regardless it's out, I'm blessed I'm to still be able to do this. I've been putting off a lift; I guess I need to re-visit it again & make it happen. I've drained everything I can to get all that stinky burnt fluid out. The pan, lines, converter & cooler; saw no glitter. I talked with Hughes performance this morning & got the new transmission in the works. It will be done on Wed. & I'm picking it up Thur. morning. It will be upgraded to 1500 hp flywheel from my 1100 hp unit. The 1st gear will be a 1.80 ratio vs. my old 1.76. Plus, I will have a Reid case, instead of the Deadenbear case. When I recuperate from spending all this $$$$ on the new trans, new Laris insurance premium & the hefty entry fees to the Spring Fling Million. I'll take the old transmission in to have it re-certified & upgraded to the new transmission specs. I will say this; I had a pretty hot tune in the old hot rod on Fri. & Sat. It was running 5.7x @ 123 in 5,000 DA. It still has some room for more timing & rpm. The trans didn't want that in the heat & later rounds. One week from today, I'll be parking for the Spring Fling! 2BKING ![]() 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3100 lbs. Pump Gas 436

Why beat yourself up trying to work under a car? Acceptable lifts are not that expensive. And if floor or overhead space is a premium a 2 post in several configurations could still be done. I just finished getting my car back out of trailer from winter storage last weekend, and Monday found I could make the RR floating brake disc crackle when pushing upward on the tire. Removed the axle today and the bearing rocks slightly side to side. Never heard that noise prior when doing this. Probably would never have caught this that early had I not had a lift. I use my transmission lift to R+R 9” diffs by myself. Pick diff off the trans lift with the engine hoist.
