I'm realizing I'm slowly losing what little talent I thought I had the older I get. This was my worst showing for this event & I had another that was close. This was my 7th appearance at the Spring Fling Million. The other 5 years I have walked away with small checks & one year I won more $$$ than what was invested in entry fees. That year I made/lost in the finals of Pro. I also went out in the 4th round of the Million. It was a good year. Out of 7 events raced, I considered myself competitive for 5 of them. I'm running out of time & slowly losing my competitiveness. I think I have one more year for the Million & after that will probably stick with only entering the (3) 30Ks. 2BKING ![]() 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3100 lbs. I decided I was going to race the event on my 30x9 Hoosiers. The set I started the race on had about 70 runs on them. I had a brand-new set & I had Hoosier mount them at the track. I took my low run PBRs as a spare set. My PBRs were my go-to radials but since running these C30 compound Hoosiers they fit my program just a tad better than the PBRs. They're a softer compound & I also tested the new Hoosier DR3 DOT radial 275/60R-15 that's a softer compound. I'm starting to like the softer compounds, but don't get the runs out of them like the PBRs. 2BKING ![]() 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3100 lbs. BKing Gotcha , yeah i have used/been happy with Hoosier radials . Just not the 70-85 passes they give me . Tex

Tex, I've been using nothing but radials for around 15 years now. I have never used a Goodyear radial & have only used the M/T PBR, not their Stock Eliminator radials. As for the Hoosier radials, I've used all the different configurations of the 30x9 that I know of. The 1st set of radials I ever used was the Hoosier 30x9 CO6 lightweight. I made 150 passes on them & they still could have went another 25. I then went to the C07 standard weight & was able to get an easy 200 runs. Sometime shortly after the M/T PBRs came out I put on the 29.5x10.5 It became my tire of choice, but it was only slightly better than the Hoosiers. I was able to get an easy 200 runs out of these. The above was when I had my high 9 sec. naturally aspirated combo. About 3 years ago I built the ProCharged combo & started out using the M/T PBR. I found; I can only get about 175 runs out of them & the sidewalls are gone but still had a good many runs left on the depth indicators. I discovered the newer Hoosier 30x9 C30 compound radial that was built/designed for the NHRA's Factor Stock Shoot Out cars. They are a good fit for my ProCharged combo. There're a couple things I don't like about the tire. They're soft & I can only get about 100 passes on them; the depth indicators are gone. I had about 75 runs on the pair I changed out at the Spring Fling & wanted a fresh set for the big day. That was a mistake! Recently I tested the new Hoosier DR3 DOT radial 275R/60-15. While I only have 3 passes on them, I'm impressed so far. We tested these on a TnT night & if I remember right the best 60' was a 1.378. We went back to the C30 compound for the next 2 days for our points races, the best 60' was 1.377. Pretty sure I can improve on the 60's with the DOT tires with a little less tire pressure. They're a 28x10 radial. The reason I brought up the last 2 paragraphs about their newest compounds; they work great on our set-up. The thing I don't like is their secrecy on these radials, most notably the compounds. I guess it really doesn't matter, they work on my car. Just thought I would share some of our radial data with you. 2BKING ![]() 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3100 lbs. Pump Gas 436

BKing , thanks for that . In 20yrs racing I have only done 1 event on rags , radials for everything else on both cars I have raced . A 32 3 window coupe and now my Plymouth . Started on 275s but when I tried tbrake needed the 29.5PBR and stuck with it . GY is fast like Hoosier but a bit more sensitive I feel .Havent really done huge amount of laps before running back to the PBR after 3 punctures in 1 GY . Went out Wednesday to a street car, minimal prep , meet to check I had solved the fuel system woes . Even had a DYO class running for a couple of dollars . Ran the PBR . Weather was nice da less so - 1900/2200 but 80% humidity & 94 grains . Plymouth was running mid 10.40s @128/9. Ran good all the way to the final. Spun off line in semi & final . 7 minute turn around to final so added 1 number to allow for the extra heat (190), spun and couldnt quite get there ran 10.462 on 48 on brakes. couldn't quite clean all 3 members of same family . Got uncle in 1/4 father in semi lost to son in final . Well I'm ready for NDRC Nitro Champs on 1-3 May . Tex

Looks like you have about 5 more years' experience with radials than I do. With the limited runs I have on the 275 DOTs, I'm impressed! They took the hit using the transbrake @ 3400 rpm/3 lbs. of boost. I'm pretty sure these 275s may only last 100 passes, only time will tell. Below is a link to my 1st post on the 275s in case you didn't see it. Good luck on your race 1-3 May! 2BKING ![]() https://drr.infopop.cc/eve/for...077031307#7077031307This message has been edited. Happy Saturday evening everyone. kinda long one here, but it is a race weekend recap, so here goes the good-bad-n-ugly of it. Race #4 for this middle aged rookie is in the books. 1st round clown again, but this time wasn't necessarily a mistake, but more lack of experience and seat time thing. Had a private test session with several other CCRA folks Friday afternoon/evening. Prior to this, I had the broken tranny fixed and resurfaced flywheel & pressure plate. Put more base pressure in clutch as well. 1st run, 60' was slower than I hoped. Added more base to it and spun pretty bad next pass, but once it hooked, it booked pretty damm well. They had the 1/4 mile timers on, so next runs, I decided to run it through the 1/4. Run 3 was almost great. Car hooked well, 60' improved, ran 6.15 at 112 in 1/8 and 9.67 at 137 in 1/4. Unfortunately, the engine shut down just before the traps. Got pulled off on the return road and found a wire pulled out of its connector on the MSD. I forced it back in and the engine fired back up. Turned out, it's the hot wire for the tach. Can't see any reason the tach hot wire would shut me down, but also didn't find any other reason for it. 4th pass was supposed to be my last, but turned into a toss out. They prepped the right lane differently, for a couple small tire no prep radial guys, and didn't let me know to go to the left. Radial guy in front of me got down like a bat outta hell. Me, I blew the tires off. Came back later for a final run, car shut down again just before 1/4 mile traps. This time it stumbled a couple times before dying. Got out on return road and checked the formerly broken wire, and it's still good. Turned on fuel pump, hit throttle a few times and fired up. Now I'm thinking I'm running out of fuel in high gear at 8000 RPM. No problems with 1/8 mile, so I left it alone. Gonna troubleshoot that tomorrow. Has 6.5lbs fuel pressure, so next check will be float level. Maybe bump the pressure to 7lbs? GoPro battery died, so I haven't watched my in car video yet. Can't find my card reader adapter either. Todays race, no problems keeping the engine running. Found my iphone roll bar mount so I could get video today. 1st time run went well. Ran 6.21, and from my in car video it appears I did my job pretty well. Slower 60' than I expected, since it felt like it hooked up well. Figured maybe the hotter temps did that. next pass was 6.17. Felt it hook harder this time, and again, the in car video makes me look like I'm learning how to drive. 1st round eliminations and no bueno... Did everything the same and car bogged big time at launch. Once it came back up, spun the tires and missed my dial in by a lot. The consensus from thinking about it and talking to a couple seasoned veteran racers, more launch RPM probably would have eliminated the bog. That may also have affected the run in other ways as well though. Paying better attention to conditions may help in my decision making too. All in all, Had a great Friday and Saturday. Tomorrow and throughout the week will be troubleshooting and hopefully routine maintenance. Looking forward to my next race. All weekend so far, I've felt like a little kid having fun for the first time in forever. Being away from racing for so long, and now being back in the saddle is pretty damm great,,, even if I'm not turning on win lights right now. Missing tomorrows race on purpose. Our granddaughter is doing baby/child dedication at church tomorrow. Can't miss that. The quotes were taken from the 2nd page of this thread. The 1st quote sums it up pretty well & sometimes we/I forget about that. Things don't always go the way would like them to when racing. It's easy to talk about when things go right, but hard to about when they don't go right. This thread helps me hold myself accountable for both my good, in-between & bad performances. BTR, summed it up pretty good in his last post! "All weekend so far, I've felt like a little kid having fun for the first time in forever." Sometimes we need to remind ourselves to have FUN! Goob, reminded me that I put a lot of pressure on myself for the Spring Fling Million. I used to be good under pressure & it worked for me for many...many years; I was miserable at the track, along with others around me. It had become a job, but I did produce the wins. In hindsight, I was doing good leading up to the Fling. I had won 3 races last fall, started 2026 with a win & went to (2) semi-finals of S/Pro using no-box. My plan was working leading up to the Spring Fling Million. You'll saw/read what happened & I had the front seat to the disaster. I blamed everything else but myself! I'm finally holding myself accountable. Planning on getting back to my winning ways with FUN being the priority & let the pressure fall to where it belongs, in the past. 2BKING ![]() 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3100 lbs. A race event costs way too much these days to not have fun from it. Be competitive, YES. Learn from the "bad" days, YES. Let a less than optimal result take the fun out of it? He!! NO! If I come away from the day with my goals met, it was a great day, Taters. My goals: Packages under .020 and, all home in one piece, and in working order. Made it through the weekend without an ambulance ride! Saturday I gave the stripe back by .004 first round, ride of shame ensued, made it to fourth round where I kicked it -.002 red. Sunday made clean runs to fifth round where I kicked it -.011 red. Felt every bit of that one. 4 races into the season and in the top 20 after missing one race. Got to hang out with the grandkids and friends, got everything home safe, it was a good weekend. "Despite the high cost of living, it remains popular." Dave Cook N375

Good to hear no ambulance ride! Glad somebody is able to use this thread. I'm trying to better adapt to our home track racing schedule & I'm not doing very good. My last race was the Spring Fling the 1st week of Apr. We had a double Divisional & the LS West Fest in Apr. also. I can't' race LS Fest & could possibly race the Divisional next year (More on this later). Then comes May 1st thru June 3rd. no drag racing period due to EDC/Electric Daisy Carnival. While I don't agree with carnival, I understand why the track host this event annually. This event generates a pretty substantial revenue for the track & Las Vegas. Money makes the world go around & if it helps keep the track open that's a good thing! Anyway, I've been pretty bored since the Fling. Our next race(s) is the 1st weekend of June. Then our track shuts down for a little over 3 months, expect for midnight mayhem street legal events. I do have some out-of-town racing planned for our track summer break: We are heading for Winnemucca, NV. in Northen Nevada a 7-hour tow for some index & bracket racing in June. I have a 5.80 Index race in Bakerfield, CA. planned in July. Nothing planned for Aug. yet. 2BKING ![]() 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3100 lbs. Pump Gas 436

Farmington has a good points/bracket race this weekend. Cheap entry and close to home. Not sure if I can go but if the stars line up I'll be there. ALL these tracks around here and NOTHING much. + Piedmont is under reconstruction but they have drift racing tearing up the parking lot. Whatever that is.

Good luck Tex. Hope you bring home the hardware. Kinda looking like my next race will be at Pageland dragway in SC May 9th. About 3'ish hour drive. Have a friend who lives nearby, so good time for a visit. Planning to t-n-t this Friday, assuming I get to work on the car and fix the top end fuel delivery issues. Pretty confident it's just the regulator set a little low, so easy enough fix, I hope. Happy racin y'all... William Kilduff 1970 Barracuda 1968 Camaro X2 1968 Caprice 1964 F100

No race this weekend, but did t-n-t yesterday. Before running, I went from 6.5 lb fuel pressure to 7.5, checked float levels and gave the carb a good cleaning. Mixed results from testing at best. I say mixed, because even though I never made a good pass, I may have learned the actual fuel issue I thought I fixed. Only made 2 passes. 1st pass, spun bad and still shutting down at 1/4 mile mark. After shutting down and coasting to the return road, I noticed this time when attempting to restart, the fuel pump was freewheeling like the tank was empty, then surging, finally caught fuel and fired up. 1/8 mile, the car is still fine, so I made one more run for 1/8 and spun even worse, and with every gear change. Either track was way off or I'm making more power than before, or maybe just a fluke. Either way, not worth burning more fuel. Earlier filter inspection, was a little dirty, but not what I'd call excessive. Today I noticed the mesh appears to be tearing/fraying. It's the Peterson 400 series inline filter. Didn't catch that before, and now has me considering it to be the problem, given how the pump sounded and mesh apparently breaking down. Fuel cell is clean and feed to filter and pump appear ok. Ordering a new filter element today, as well as a few other items I think I need. Hoping to run the Classic Gear Jammers race in Pageland next Saturday. Hey Tex, how's that race going down there? Haven't tuned into the feed, been super busy here with my mess, race related, work and family... Family's ok, we're all just a big mess. LOL Have a great weekend... BTR, just out of curiosity how is your fuel system set-up & what pump(s) are you using? I watched his time hits & saw he had won the 1st round. Hope he did well! 5 gallon cell without foam, aprox 15" fuel line to Peterson 400 series filter. Pretty sure it's the 45 micron element (media and mesh appears to be breaking down upon better/closer inspection). Aprox 8" fuel hose to Magna Fuel prostar 500 series pump & has bypass to tank. Tag still on it showing factory set at 28# but I haven't verified this. Pump feeds 4 port Magna Fuel regulator on inner fender set at 7.5 assuming gauge is accurate. Feeding 780cfm 4150 series carb. Rear bowl has jet extensions. All fuel hose is 10 AN (1/2" ID) from tank to regulator. 6 AN (1/4" ID) regulator to carb. Also, pump input is roughly 1" below output of fuel cell. Car is wired for Racepak data including fuel pressure sensor, but I don't have the laptop that came with it. It exists somewhere, I just haven't found it. Got packed away with my brothers stuff after he passed and I'm still opening boxes and finding stuff that had been thought to be lost. Found a nice QuickFuel carb a few weeks ago in one, LOL. When the problem appears, engine starts to break up (sounds like hitting high side chip but engine's not that high yet) about 100-200'ish feet from 1/4 mile stripe. I get off throttle immediately and engine dies. Pump sounds like it's not pulling fuel for what seems like 10-15 seconds, then starts surging and eventually can hear it pulling fuel as normal, then engine fires back up. Last pass I made Friday, I got off throttle midway between the 1/8 & 1/4 marks and engine never missed a beat & didn't shut down. Gonna pull plugs and see how they look in a bit, I hope, (currently smoking 3 racks on the smoker, so I'm semi-preoccupied LOL). Ordering a new filter element tomorrow. Going to email MagnaFuel for their input and likely pick up a kit for the pump and regulator, just in case. Need to test pump output volume and pressure as well. Pretty sure I remember how to test volume, but will use the google machine to verify. No pressure gauge here to verify this, but may know someone who has one. Hopefully I'm not forgetting anything, but alzheimers does run on one side of my family... William Kilduff 1970 Barracuda 1968 Camaro X2 1968 Caprice 1964 F100
