Was it a punch or open hand shove? I wasn’t sure watching.
**** move either way. Weird thing is I'm not sure what triggered it. And out of character for Steve from anything I had seen before. I'm not really any sort of fan of his. He seems like a smug little fella.

I don't want to defend his actions. But they do catch these racers coming out of a 9000 hp car going well over 300 mph and in this case in a dog fight at the last race for sealing up a championship. Anyone might be amped up and do something unusual for them in that situation. Most don't. Maybe there was more to it. Who knows.

IMO, NHRA needs to react consistently to this incident. This isn't the first time something like this has happened. Shove a kid who you feel is disrespecting you in front of the world and lose everything you and your team worked for all year? I dunno. That's what some are insisting on. I was rooting for Doug myself. Another guy who is backed by boatloads of money.

20 years ago this would have just added to the entertainment. It wasn't all that uncommon. We almost expected it from the down in the dirt, rednecks that we enjoyed watching. Now the drivers are lightweight jockeys who basically never work on the cars, and we are shocked when one of them cracks under pressure and lashes out.

I remember Doug H trying to eat Clay at the starting line a number of years ago. I don't recall what the punishment was.

That would have resulted a good ass-kicking for sure.

Question, however- what advantage other than head games does deep staging do in heads up racing? Put you "x inches" closer to the finish line?

Configuration: 3350#, 582 C.I.,

60 - 1.24
1/8 - 5.53@ 126MPH
1/4 - 8.73@ 159MPH

3700#+210lb driver, FULL interior, through mufflers, 10.5 tire.
60'-1.333 (IN 4000ft DA! Joisy Math excluded; 1.25sec using JOISY MATH.) Wink
1/4 - 9.60@144MPH

On one hand it is great press and drag racing needs all it can get. On the other hand there have been precedents set by how NHRA handled sportsman racers in the same type situations. I believe either "have at it boys" or be consistent between Sportsman and Pros.

Cameron is getting the short end twice in this deal. He is under a gag order from NHRA about speaking his side of what happened, yet Torrance has spoken out. "Act like a b1tch get treated like a b1tch". I don't believe his apology was heartfelt, just words to de-escalate the situation.

Not the first time Torrance has acted like a big entitled baby and I was, before this, somewhat of a fan of his. I have no problem with guys showing emotion, passion or whatever you want to call it but Cameron is there to race and win. He did nothing wrong, ethically or rules wise. Torrance just threw a hissy fit over someone not doing it exactly the way he thought they should.

I do believe if the two had been reversed NHRA would have reacted differently that day. They would have escorted Cameron right out of there because he doesn't pump money in like Torrance.

Don't even get me started on Pedregon's comment about getting out of the way. This isn't NASCAR. I believe if you win the championship you should have to earn every round.

Curtis

The commentator that interviewed Torrence at the end of the track was partially responsible for not calling Torrence out on the fact there's nothing wrong with deep staging. The commentator should have been the one who had it out with Torrence, but that's what happens when you don't have people who know drag racing commentating. Who does the NFL have commentating? Football players right?

Torrence looked like Veruca Salt from Willie Wonka and Chocolate Factory "I want it now and don't care How"!!!

Don Garlits would have called Veruca out.

Little? No sir, Too big to fail.

Above the law, the gag order tells you this.

Special.

Doug is a class act and exemplifies good sportsmanship regardless of his financial situation. That's the difference between some of the younger entitled racers today.

I don’t know much about Steve. What have you seen that shows his entitlement or differentiates him from Doug?
