You didn't answer the question. He listened. We listened to the experts. And yet here we are. It will be done, when it is done. Stringing it out longer does not save lives.

We all know what the experts say. The experts don't have a country or a state to run.

Nobody has control over the virus. Their infection rates aren't vastly different than ours. A few countries that have very very compliant populations have had some areas of success because, well frankly their population is quite used to no freedoms or rights. The same plans do not work well for a country like the USA. At the end of the day, number of deaths is the real yard stick as well as overall damage to the country and economy right? Well, it would have been helpful had some of the governors not thrown our elderly in nursing homes to the wolves. That is a major source of deaths. Take those out of the equation, and our numbers start looking a lot better. Overall, our governors need to step up. Everyone knew from the get go that the elderly would be the vulnerable population for deaths. In the end, no more people may perish because we open up. Few school children succumb to the complications from the virus. But you take a year of education away from an already questionable education in this country, and that is a long term problem. The wealthy can afford other means of education. But staying closed affects the working class and poor more aggressively. I thought you libs were all about helping them? But here you are taking away their educations, their futures, and their jobs right now. What gives?

Even Germany who was haled as the gold standard early, is now struggling as they try to bring life back to "normal". Even they know this is not sustainable nor does it make sense when the end result is virtually the same.

Also, I don't get the authoritarian label you are using for Trump. It doesn't fit. He encouraged states to open up, because that is the best path forward for everyone. But he forced no states to do anything. He offered support for their plans.....many had no plans. The only time he has gotten in the business of the states, is when their cities were not protecting federal buildings/property and citizens were in danger. Why those cities would let things get to that point I have no idea. Maybe you can explain that.

Ok I've been pretty outspoken and opinionated about this virus. I don't think it's fake, and I think locking down indefinitely is counter productive.

That said, this data isn't completely new. There has been "died from covid" and "died with covid" data for most of this.
Died from covid is straight forward, and that is the 6% people are looking at.
Died with covid could mean a couple things. It could be that covid created other health issues like pneumonia or they go to the hospital and get staf, or organ failure. Otherwise healthy people get covid and end up dying from complications from it.
The others would also be in two categories.
1. People who already had serious illness...one foot on a banana peel I call them. Honestly I think these shouldn't be included. A nurse passing gas could kill some of those.
2. People with livable conditions that are made much worse due to covid...and they die from that. Somebody could have high blood pressure, or treatable cancer, heart disease...whatever. Stuff they could live potentially a long time with, if not for a covid infection. Now a bad flu bug could send then over the edge too. So do we count those since the people could have motored right along for a good while but died with covid?

So I guess it's hard to make the entire argument that 94% shouldn't be counted. No doubt that a very small percentage of people that get covid die. And if we could just protect really well those over 70 and those with serious health issues, we could have much smaller mortality numbers. But we can't lock those down forever. IMO we are approaching this all wrong.
