One of my Facebook friends said that he thinks the Indy 500 will be cancelled.

On Class Racer, there was concern of NHRA possibly cancelling some events.

Another big win for bracket racing, because nobody watches it. Smile

From Dr. Sharkawy

I'm a doctor and an Infectious Diseases Specialist. I've been at this for more than 20 years seeing sick patients on a daily basis. I have worked in inner city hospitals and in the poorest slums of Africa. HIV-AIDS, Hepatitis,TB, SARS, Measles, Shingles, Whooping cough, Diphtheria...there is little I haven't been exposed to in my profession. And with notable exception of SARS, very little has left me feeling vulnerable, overwhelmed or downright scared.

I am not scared of Covid-19. I am concerned about the implications of a novel infectious agent that has spread the world over and continues to find new footholds in different soil. I am rightly concerned for the welfare of those who are elderly, in frail health or disenfranchised who stand to suffer mostly, and disproportionately, at the hands of this new scourge. But I am not scared of Covid-19.

What I am scared about is the loss of reason and wave of fear that has induced the masses of society into a spellbinding spiral of panic, stockpiling obscene quantities of anything that could fill a bomb shelter adequately in a post-apocalyptic world. I am scared of the N95 masks that are stolen from hospitals and urgent care clinics where they are actually needed for front line healthcare providers and instead are being donned in airports, malls, and coffee lounges, perpetuating even more fear and suspicion of others. I am scared that our hospitals will be overwhelmed with anyone who thinks they " probably don't have it but may as well get checked out no matter what because you just never know..." and those with heart failure, emphysema, pneumonia and strokes will pay the price for overfilled ER waiting rooms with only so many doctors and nurses to assess.

I am scared that travel restrictions will become so far reaching that weddings will be canceled, graduations missed and family reunions will not materialize. And well, even that big party called the Olympic Games...that could be kyboshed too. Can you even
imagine?

I'm scared those same epidemic fears will limit trade, harm partnerships in multiple sectors, business and otherwise and ultimately culminate in a global recession.

But mostly, I'm scared about what message we are telling our kids when faced with a threat. Instead of reason, rationality, openmindedness and altruism, we are telling them to panic, be fearful, suspicious, reactionary and self-interested.

Covid-19 is nowhere near over. It will be coming to a city, a hospital, a friend, even a family member near you at some point. Expect it. Stop waiting to be surprised further. The fact is the virus itself will not likely do much harm when it arrives. But our own behaviors and "fight for yourself above all else" attitude could prove disastrous.

I implore you all. Temper fear with reason, panic with patience and uncertainty with education. We have an opportunity to learn a great deal about health hygiene and limiting the spread of innumerable transmissible diseases in our society. Let's meet this challenge together in the best spirit of compassion for others, patience, and above all, an unfailing effort to seek truth, facts and knowledge as opposed to conjecture, speculation and catastrophizing.

Facts not fear. Clean hands. Open hearts.
Our children will thank us for it.

I won't be surprised if all sporting events are cancelled. They have the Home Show cancelled here at McCormick Place. On the low end financially the loss is 77M. Vendors are trying to recoup the logistics of the freight. Millions of dollars. Vendors from all over the world. My business has just about come to a halt in the mobile repair area.

Certainly the Dr above has the prudent advice and opinion.

As far as China goes: We have allowed ourselves to become reliant on this country who has the clear goal to overtake us economically at virtually any cost. This threat is greatly underestimate and virtually ignored by corporations and our government. This is an area that we need our government to act as part of our country's defense. My only complaint with Trumps actions against China last year is that they weren't aggressive enough.

This is total BS.
If people want to fall for the hype and be a follower (as most people do) then stay home, be scared, cuddle with your blankie, sit in the corner, suck your thumb and cry.

Me, my wife and I just came back from a GREAT 17 day vacation in Hawaii, got home yesterday, flew thru several LARGE city/airports.
I didn't wear a mask, I only saw 1 (YES ONE) person wearing one, a young Chinese kid in a California airport.
You just need to use COMMON SENSE.
WASH YOUR HANDS (which sad to say MANY people don't), use sanitizer if you touch common objects, if you see someone sneeze or cough openly, YELL at them to COVER THEIR FUCING MOUTH, etc. etc.
Oh, and by the way, THIS IS NOTHING NEW.
This should be done ALL THE TIME during cold and flu season.

IDIOTS, all this for NO REASON.

FACT:
MORE PEOPLE HAVE DIED IN THE LAST SEVERAL WEEKS FROM THE REGULAR FLU THAN THIS BS STUFF.

Cool

Youre missing the big picture... Mass panic is good! Let it get to fever pitch, then sign an executive order to deport every zipper head from seattle to key west! Hopefully it will include the rag heads too to be safe. 7 11 will suffer along with white hen, so what. Our freeways will never again see an asian hogging up the passing lane.

The more we learn and the more this goes on, it seems to be driven by fear and media hype with a touch of politics mixed in.

We will see how the case numbers are in coming weeks. But my prediction is that the mortality rate will be lower here if we can protect our elderly. That seems to be the group most affected. Some of the measures being taken right now seem to be CYA in nature. This so far does not seem to be the disaster that the media has hyped. I could be all wrong, but I hope I am not.

Now we are doing real damage to our economy. Of course it is warranted if Corona was as bad as hyped. Did I read that the average age of death from Corona is 74 thus far?

Yes 74 is the average age. And it also has a 97% survival rate.
