PLUS the state is in EXCELLENT financial condition!!!!! Where is the guy that was mercilessly bashing Governor Walker????? Has he seen the light???? limp dyck bj duped boob RETARD #1 keeps trying to saddle the CONSERVATIVES here as supporting the rino establishment Republicans who are only half a step different then FLEEBAGGERS!!!!! WASHINGTON -- Former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) and his wife, Maureen, were indicted by a federal grand jury Tuesday on a combined 14 counts related to public corruption stemming from thousands of dollars in gifts and loans received from a top political donor. They could both face prison time. The indictment comes after a long series of revelations in The Washington Post about how the governor and his wife took gifts from then-Star Scientific CEO Jonnie Williams. Federal prosecutors accused the governor of taking some $135,000 in gifts and loans from Williams, in addition to "thousands of dollars in golf outings." The beginning of the allegedly improper relationship with the political donor began in 2009, when Maureen McDonnell asked Williams to cover the cost of her inaugural dress and got angry at one of her husband's staffers when that person said it wasn't a good idea. "Bob is screaming about the thousands I'm charging up in credit card debt," she allegedly wrote in an email to Williams. "We are broke, have an unconscionable amount in credit card debt already, and this Inaugural is killing us!!" She later allegedly wrote that she couldn't accept the dress but that she would take a "rain check" from the donor. Among the items the federal prosecutors said are subject to forfeiture are Louis Vuitton shoes, a silver Rolex watch engraved with "71st Governor of Virginia," sets of golf clubs and iPhones. Additionally, the feds alleged that the McDonnells had received yard work, home repairs and even a hot tub cover for their personal residence at the expense of Williams' brother. Jonnie Williams gave tens of thousands of dollars toward the weddings of two of the then-governor's daughters. He took Maureen McDonnell on a $15,000 shopping spree in New York City, and the McDonnells borrowed Williams' Ferrari, which retails for $190,000. The Post had also reported that Williams gave $70,000 to a real estate corporation owned by McDonnell and his sister and $50,000 to his wife, amounts that were not required to be disclosed under state law. McDonnell helped arrange a meeting between Williams and Virginia Health Secretary Bill Hazel to pitch the company's dietary supplement called Antabloc, which the federal Food and Drug Administration has said has no medical benefit. McDonnell's wife also touted the supplement, and the McDonnells appeared at a luncheon at the governor's mansion to mark the supplement's launch. A Star Scientific employee met with the state's human resources manager to push for the state's benefits package to cover Antabloc. McDonnell announced in July last year that all the loans from Williams had been repaid in full. In a subsequent radio interview that month, he said he was working to return the gifts, but did not offer specifics. As Virginia governor, McDonnell was barred from succeeding himself and thus was already going to leave office this month. However, the scandal has likely eliminated any hopes he had to run for president in 2016 or for any other high office. In addition, the scandal arguably contributed to the Democrats winning the governor's mansion, as the Republicans' gubernatorial candidate, former state Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, also received gifts from Williams. McDonnell released a statement Tuesday denying that he had broken the law. "My fellow Virginians, earlier today federal prosecutors notified my attorneys that they have filed criminal charges against me and my wife Maureen, alleging that we violated federal law by accepting gifts and loans from Jonnie Williams, the former CEO of Star Scientific. I deeply regret accepting legal gifts and loans from Mr. Williams, all of which have been repaid with interest, and I have apologized for my poor judgment for which I take full responsibility

House Speaker John Boehner issued a stern warning to President Obama ahead of Tuesday night's State of the Union address: "We have a Constitution. We abide by it. If he tries to ignore it, he's going to run into a brick wall." The House speaker was addressing concerns that Obama is preparing to bypass Congress this year with more executive actions. Advisers for days have signaled that Obama will promote that approach in his State of the Union address -- and will use his "pen" and his "phone" in 2014 to achieve the results he wants. The president took a first step in that direction on Tuesday, announcing an executive order raising the minimum wage for new federal contract workers to $10.10 an hour, from $7.25. Obama will use the move to apply additional pressure on Congress to approve a similar increase for all workers. Some Democrats are warning Obama to tread carefully. "We hope that he does not dwell on the successes of the economy, which may be apparent in employment statistics, the GDP and stock market gains, but which are not felt by folks at the grocery store," Democratic political analysts James Carville and Stan Greenberg wrote in a recent strategy memo. The topic heading should cover this article. The centerpiece of the Republican party's attack on the Affordable Care Act following President Obama's State of the Union address this week was the story of "Bette." Bette was an otherwise unidentified Washington state resident featured in the official GOP response to the Obama speech delivered by Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.). According to Rodgers, Bette had written her a letter stating that she had "hoped the president’s healthcare law would save her money – but found out instead that her premiums were going up nearly $700 a month." The lesson, according to Rodgers: "This law is not working." Bette has now been tracked down by her hometown Spokane Spokesman-Review. She's Bette Grenier, who owns a small business with her husband. Unsurprisingly, her story is much different from the sketchy description provided by Rodgers. That description perplexed experts, including Washington State Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler, who couldn't understand how a state resident "would have no choice but to pay $700 per month more for a policy that meets the Affordable Care Act’s coverage requirements," the newspaper reported. Grenier told the newspaper that she wrote Rodgers after her insurance company informed her that her $552-a-month catastrophic health plan would not be offered in 2014. It offered her an alternative plan complying with the ACA at $1,052 a month. But that sounds like her insurer trying to steer her to an overpriced option. A compliant plan meeting the Affordable Care Act's coverage mandates actually is available from Washington's insurance exchange for much less -- and with a deductible far lower than the $10,000 she was paying under the old plan and broader coverage, though lacking a provision for four free doctor visits a year provided by her old plan. Grenier said she had flatly refused to even investigate her options on the exchange. "I wouldn’t go on that Obama website at all,” she said. “We liked our old plan. It worked for us, but they can’t offer it anymore.” Instead, she and her husband "have decided to go without coverage," the newspaper reported. Does this make sense? Grenier deliberately decided to forgo the options available to her and her family from the Affordable Care Act, despite the knowledge that they might be more suitable for her than her old insurance or the plan being hawked by her insurer -- she says a friend of hers found a plan for a mere $129 a month. But her plight has nothing to do with Obamacare. It's a product of her own apparently flawed decision to refuse even to look into the benefits the healthcare law might provide. And it's another sign of how threadbare the GOP criticism of the Affordable Care Act has become. If this is the best they can conjure up for what might be one of the best-watched TV appearances a back-bench Republican congresswoman gets to deliver, shouldn't they give up already? The GOP's rebuttal was full of lies and this is just 1 of them. Cathy McMorris Rodgers delibertly lied to all of America and was caught red handed.

Labor leaders who have spent months lobbying unsuccessfully for special protections under the Affordable Care Act warned this week that the White House’s continued refusal to help is dampening union support for Democratic candidates in this year’s midterm elections. Leaders of two major unions, including the first to endorse Obama in 2008, said they have been betrayed by an administration that wooed their support for the 2009 legislation with promises to later address the peculiar needs of union-negotiated insurance plans that cover millions of workers. http://www.washingtonpost.com/...98f9e5267_story.html
