Three Australian commandos and a U.S. service member were killed when a helicopter crashed in southern Afghanistan. NATO officials said there was no evidence that hostile fire was responsible for the crash, although the Taliban claimed it shot down the helicopter with a rocket.

U.S. DEATHS: Five other NATO troops, including four Americans, died in attacks in the east and south, officials said. The latest deaths brought the number of international service members killed in Afghanistan this month to at least 62, including 41 Americans.

OFFICIAL SLAIN: Afghan officials said a deputy district governor was beheaded in Wardak province during the weekend after being kidnapped four days ago.
