By law a trailer has no place of origin. As long as this is a law, they cant do shyt about it.

Until the law is changed as the state gets hosed by guys who think they should act like they saved money by not paying personal property tax like everyone else. Believe me, I hate taxes as much as the next guy but believe mostly businesses do this vs personal and don't need a problem because of it.

so 434 olds, Seabass, pauley and yours truly along with the "lots of guys" who's trailers you saw "on the eastern side of the country" with Maine tags, are "tax evaders", "hosing their state", "wrong" in your opinion. Well your opinion is just that and influences my or their decision in no way!!

The fact is we like you and every american, including our great president, want to pay the least amount of tax we legally can, I do it every year and so do you and so does every american with half a brain. Registering our new trailers in Maine is but one of MANY legal ways to do so.

FYI, smart racers "on the eastern side of the country" have been registering their trailers in Maine for DECADES.

Now back to the subject of this thread, "just another white trailer" Uncontrollable Laugh

Lol.......this has been going on forever, Maine offers quantity discounts to commercial trucking companies that register trailers thousands at a time. There are almost as many commercial trailers with Maine tags (800,000 +)) as there are people viewing this thread. Smile

Ed.......have you ever thought about a career in commercial fishing......'cause you can really reel 'em in.

Howie,
Don't worry about it.
My next door neighbor is a Connecticut DOT Inspector (I can't speak for NY but I would think it is probably pretty close).
I've spoken to him at length about towing, registration, etc.

First and foremost, Connecticut does NOT have a CDL for a motorhome so NONE is required. It doesn't matter what you are towing behind you or nothing at all. Do NOT STOP at Scales or TOLL BOOTHS. He said this is a HUGE NO-NO and they get pissed if you do.
Second, registrations of motohomes and trailers are at the discretion of the OWNER (they may own property in Florida, Maine, Idaho, etc) so they may register their vehicles anywhere. CT has tried to create/enforce a rule of where the "vehicle is kept" for more than 6 months that "should be" the registered state. However this is unenforceable due to the state NOT knowing where you may live during the year.

AS far as taxes, I guess MOST of the the guys that register their trailer and coach in THEIR state don't have ANY idea about state and local property taxes as we do up here.
In MY state/town my ANNUAL property tax (mill rate) on a $15,000 trailer would be over $700 A YEAR, this does NOT include the initial registration sales tax of 6.35% nor the $25 registration fee, nor the Title fee of $10, nor the "Plate" fee of $5. Oh, and if your trailer/motohome was MORE than $50k the sales tax goes up to 7.75%.

So for some quick math, If I buy a $30,000 trailer and register it in CT. MY initial CT taxes and registration would be over $2000, THEN I get to pay EVERY YEAR another $1400 just because I registered it here. NOW add my coach, say it's $150,000 (which is NOTHING for a coach) these ANNUAL fees will be OVER $7000, yes 7 thousand A YEAR (not too mention the registration fees of almost $12,000). So just to go racing (before I pull out of the driveway) with the coach and trailer I'd be spending over $20,000 for the FIRST YEAR in CT compared to MAYBE a couple thousand else where, then EVERY YEAR AFTER that I'd be spending another $10,000 in yearly property taxes.

We are NOT alone, I would say that 1 in 3 DAILY driver vehicles in Connecticut are registered out of state. Go to any local grocery store on a Saturday or Sunday, that's all you see is plates from Mass, Maine, NJ, Florida, etc, etc.

Heck, don't you guys remember John Kerry had his yacht registered in another state. Nothing happened to him and that made ALL the news papers.
It IS LEGAL to register your stuff in other states.

P.S.
We've been doing this since the EARLY 1990's and have been all up and down the East coast from Maine to Florida and as far west as Chicago with NO ISSUES. Just drive normal and you'll be fine.

P.S.S.
Almost forgot, I have a regular CT drivers license, My coach was registered in Idaho and my trailer was registered in Maine. Never had an issue ANYWHERE.
I've since sold the coach and since my trailer is over 15 years old now I've registered it in CT (appraisal value is lower so may annual tax is almost nothing).

Need for speed

Yea and I have been on toll roads all over the country since the 80s and never had a problem until...

Ed, your too dang smart, too rich, and clearly too arrogant...cant fix it.

Some choose to exploit a law designed for commercial, some don't.

While you, and a handful don't pay personal property tax on your chit in your state, the rest of us do. End of story.

Have a great day.

and too good looking NahNahTounge

and again, you fail to comprehend and acknowledge that what I and many racers "on the eastern side of the country" including pentastarrail too have done, registering our trailers is LEGAL and what you have done, towing your nearly 4 feet too long trailer/rig in Pa and many other states is ILLEGAL!

COMPREHEND your trailer is just another white trailer, your a d I c k, your an arrogant d I c k, you bragg on your money, cars, and cigars. You feel compelled to tell everyone how much better you are than others AND how.much more money you make than others. If they don't agree with your opinion they get called names by the school yard bully you portray daily on this forum.

I respect many on this forum, your just not one of them.

Again, not arrogant, CONFIDENT.

Further, I don't brag on my money, I work for it, 60 hours a week and I'm not rich but I pay more in taxes every year than most that post here.

Now my cars speak for themselves, they are what they are, top shelf, no expense spared, built by the best.

You're just a jealous, crybaby that got pinched in Pa and came here and cried how the "nazi" toll supervisor done you wrong when the fact is your rig was and still is illegal in many states and for this you will pay the fine.

Last I offer very little opinion rather advice based on 25 years of bracket racing and over 5000 passes. The TRUTH and the FACT is that you and the same few others that reply to every to every thread I'm advising, can't handle the FACT that I have more knowledge and experience than you/them do on many issues so you/they reply solely for purpose of debating me.
