Some teams age them a year or two. Seasoned? There is theory saying older new slicks aren’t as aggressive as new rubber. California Screaming! Raceless in California! | |||

I had a pair of Goodyear 6303 radials that sat in a leaky trailer, flat, for over 9 years, and with a new engine, converter, and gear put up the best runs the car ever made. I put a set on this spring brand new 3 yrs old stored in a basement the whole time. 1st 2 passes blew the tires off at he hit 14-32 MT's leaving at 4k on a 6.4x car turned the stop on the next 2 passes at .200 on the stop went down the track, next day turned the stop off and has been fine since, just be ready to lift at the hit. | |||

I have a brand new set sitting in the trailer that are about three years old now, will be going on the car for next season..... I put a new set of MT 14.5/32 stiff side walls on the car recently. First hit at 4600, zero spin. Second hit produced the same 60, as it did for the next 4 license passes (swapping lanes) with a friend driving the car. I started at 6.5#, never changed. TS1 @ 1.0 (4000 rpm), shift @ 1.2, TS2 @ 2.70, slow on, slow off = same 60's and a 5.79, then a 5.80. Happy? Oh ya! I was shooting for a 5.80 to run the 5.80 Index, then I'm told "Sorry, no throttle stops". Happy? N o t exactly. Bob | |||
