Will the fiber optic dial boards work with just power and ground to the delay box? Our local no-box class requires the delay box to be unplugged but I’m hoping to still use the dial boards.

Was thinking that as long as the delay functions don’t work I should be okay. It would be nice if the dial boards would work though. No shoe polish!

Cash, call Kevin Rodden at K & R. There might be a way. My thought is that you will stir up a wasp's nest about having a powered delay box in the no-box class. Kevin sells a controller for the display. But now you have two units tied to the same display, which would require a switch. More complications. What are other racers in the same situation doing?

I was being lazy. I’m going to test it today. I think it will work. I’ll post back after I see.

As long as there are no other wires hooked up or I tape them off where they can’t be hooked up I don’t see the problem.

Works perfectly. I’ll tape off the trigger wires and that should do it. This car has two dial boards be a shame not to use them.

Sounds like HUGE argument first time you beat a someone and they see it. Or you win a race/ go to another track.
KR sells a separate little box to drive the boards independent of the box. Far less controversy. yes you have to change box and that to match but once installed there is no screwing around. Think it was around 150 bucks.
Hardest thing to do at that point is remember to put box back in car between rounds.

This is my general observation about delay boxes in no-box or Pro. It has become a problem since NHRA allow the same race vehicle to be used double entered into different classes. Our track rules & I think NHRA states the delay box needs removed in no-box/Pro. I can tell you it's not being done.

This is my outlook on the issue. Any dragster I run in no-box/Pro I automatically assume they're using a box. I set my transbrake switch up for a tighter light. As for door car there are some that are not removing the box also. I do the same set-up as for a dragster.

As for Vern/Cashflow & his track. That rule doesn't cut it with a quick disconnect wiring. It's too easy just to connect & disconnect. Not that I would worry about Vern doing that, but I would still race him like the other dragsters.

Now, you probably are thinking why am I pointing mainly at dragsters. We literally had one dragster in Pro releasing the button off the top bulb; he disappeared after 2 or 3 races. As for most dragsters or even door cars, they're leaving off the bottom with the box. It's still an advantage leaving off the bottom with a box in a door car or dragster. It's especially an advantage to leave off the bottom with a dragster. Dragsters react way quicker than a door car, a small delay really helps them from going red.

I'm always looking in cars & dragster for a box. Dragsters are easy to spot & many aren't removing the box, door cars are a little harder to spot.

I have brought this up to our track manager & keep it to generalities as above & not diming out the person or specific race vehicle.

The above is one of the reasons, not the main; I'm no-box racing in S/Pro this year.
