I don't like polls, but an opportunity rose on Class Racer. So, I decided to start one. It's interesting to see how the results are shaping up when class racers are bracket racing. Kind of curious how it plays out on DRR.

I chose, Use all the holds .01-.06 & above.

Question:
Do you guys hold numbers when picking a dial? Pick the best answer that describes your strategy.

Choices:
I don't hold/try to dial honest
Hold .01-.02
Hold .03-.04
Hold .05-.06
Hold .06 & above
Use all the holds .01-.06 & above

It's not that difficult. You can look at the poll as you don't hold, or you hold. The 1st choice is you don't hold. The last choice is you hold. The choices in between are fillers.

The class racers figured it out on their forum. Currently the 60 members that have replied:

41.67% don't hold

30% hold .02

11.67% hold .06 & above/more

Currently on DRR it appears with 8 votes:

63% hold .06 & above/more

I used the most significant percentages from the polls.

This is my view on holding when I dial. When the subject comes up, I'm always willing to share that I always try to hold. Most racers can't understand why I share that.

I hold anywhere from .01-.06 on a consistent basis & have held more on some occasions. I primarily use the throttle to get rid of what I'm holding & very rarely use the brakes.

Below is a recent time slip where we both were holding. The right lane is an accomplished Stock Eliminator racer & a very accomplished bracket racer in his bracket car. The below slip is one of the reasons why I hold. I'm positive if I would have not held/dialed honest. I would have lost that round. I would have run a 9.034 @ around 150 mph if I ran it out.

I had gotten rid of most of what I was holding using the throttle around the 1000'. I was planning for him to spot drop hard using his brakes. I ended up using my brakes slightly when he spot dropped.

How’s the car? How am I that day? If car isn’t consistent and I am on the tree, I need to hold and wheel race. If car is consistent and I can’t hit the tree, then I need to hold to disguise my lights and make sure I burn numbers.

How much? depends who I am running. I want to get to 15mph or less in difference between myself and my opponent. I also don’t want to give up the mph advantage if I start with that.

Here in Texas and 5 State area all bracket racing is 1/8 mile so I generally like to hold .02. If we were able to run 1/4 mile I may consider more.

Do not do same thing every time and may make some changes in game plan depending on situation. There are times when I will dial honest.

"Dunning-Kruger Effect"
-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.

Our track is primarily a 1/4-mile track, but we do have some 1/8th mile races & I prefer them!

I used to hold more in the 1/4-mile than the 1/8th mile. Roughly 5 years ago I started working on holding more in the 1/8th than the 1/4.

In my hold testing both in time runs & racing. I get rid of ET in many different areas of the track. I've held some STUPID hold numbers & made them work while racing. This wasn't always the case when I started holding testing 15-20 years ago.

IMO, holding has really stepped up my strategy game & has made me a more successful racer.
