Wondered what water temperature should be after 1/4 mile run the to drive back to the pits????

There are way too many variables at play here. Why don’t you describe what’s happening before we can opine on whether or not there is a likely problem?

Our home track is in Las Vegas, NV. we race during the middle of the day to late afternoon. During our hottest days 100*+, we usually see engine temps in the 170* area & never gets over 180*. We run a ProCharged SBC on 100 UL pump gas.

I try to stage my car as close to 160 as I can. Also turn fan off at pre-stage. Turn it back on when I get on the return road. Only time I've gone over 170 is when the fan quit turnin...

As for me I run a 160° thermostat so that is where I stage at. It was 95° Saturday and I was hitting the return road about 171-173° on my digital gauge. I'm on alcohol running 1/8 mile but my combination is a little different. My radiator is in the rear of my roadster and it's pretty large. See why I say there are lots of variables?

Usually its right at 220 on the way back to the pits but comes down fairly quick, its a Jegs racing radiator Scirocco replacement no filler neck but a 16 lb cap.

First question would be is this an aluminum block? They transfer heat much faster than iron blocks, heat up quicker and cool down quicker.

Gas, ethanol, or methanol?

Water pump GPM?

16V or 12V?

In my experience, a well tuned bracket car will rise 10-15 degrees on a pass. I think you are either too lean or your timing may be off.

What is your starting line temp?

My stuff I try to be over 180 at the line, but it generally doesn't happen. I really don't gain any temp during the run and I tow back. By the time I'm back at the pits the block and heads are luke warm to the touch at the most. I run alky mfi, a thermostat, and aluminum block. I never have to cool it, ever......
