Any of you racers have an Accusump or like setup when running methanol? Any issues with moisture in the canister or other issues to look for. Is the juice worth the squeeze

My car came with an Accusump because the previous owner was using the incorrect pump pick-up and the oil pressure was down to zero in the shutdown without it. Replacing with a better pickup resolved my problem and I sold the Accusump. If I need to pre-oil prior to initial start (like after oil change) I just crank it. I think if you don’t need one for a specific problem it’s best avoided imho.

I, like many, use methanol and ALL my oil samples came back with zero water in the oil. My valve cover interiors are moisture free when I check the valves also. I do not have a vac pump, only evac that actually works.

Lil Brother has accusump on his turbo alky VW. Has not had any issues

I run an accusump and have for years with methonal with no issues.

Don't see the need for one but if you run one it would have the same exposure as all of the rest of your oil system. It needs to be emptied when oil is changed so I don't see how it does anything for start ups afterwards. If anything if you didn't shut it off it would prevent the engine from getting initial oil.

I run one with Methanol and don't have any issues. Which you won't if your tune up is good.

This past weekend I did however have the top of the electric valve just break off and dump the contents in my pit as soon as I parked my car. Scared the heck out of me when I saw it. Putting a cast brass valve back on it to replace the cast aluminum Moroso valve.

Joe I ordered exactly that valve before I saw this. I was looking at my data logs and I’m not sure I will put it back on with the pan I am running now. It doesn’t seem to lose any pressure that I have seen.

With my Milodon pan you better have an accumulator on it. LOL

ACCUSUMP and methanol for 20+ years no issues.

The valve trouble is concerning; Amazon sells one in stainless i've been running for years with no issue. The aluminum one from moroso is grossly overpriced at 150. I think i paid less than 40 for the stainless one a few years back from Amazon.

If I do put the accumulator back on I am going to remote mount the valve to isolate it from the tank.

remote mounting the solenoid is a good idea. On the moroso version you'll have to make a special tool to hold the end cap and unscrew the valve.

I have a Moroso 3 qt. with that valve, I have used for 25 years, on alky with no issues but that looks scary. I have mine mounted above the front drivers side wheel on the brow bar. Something like that on a pass would not end well.

I don't use mine for any pressure aid. I use it to prelube the engine at startup.

But now you got me scared.

I believe it was just vibration and the weight of the solenoid on top of the valve just weakened it to the point of breaking.

The aluminum plate I have it mounted on can move just enough that maybe that weight cracked the valve. If I put it back on I am going to remote mount the valve so it is solid and I don't think it will happen again. I am really limited on space with my roadster so it's either leave it there or take it off.
