I always thought a collapsible shaft of some sort would be safer.....Kinda hard to stuff a digger straight into the wall I guess...

First not hard. I had 275" sideways whule no 90* to wall damnm close. My guess is almost impossible to fo;d up chassis w/o fold steering shaft and noit driving it back. Nothing says you can not have support or brace to eliminate possiblity for ti to be driven towards driver,

1: There is a rule, I think to have a stop to keep the shaft from ramming the driver. At the least every RED I have had has had this stop.

2: If one was concerned a 2 piece or more shaft with grade 5 or aluminum pins would do the trick.

Quite the machinist / fabricator..

I made a topic a few weeks back wondering why racers aren't using hydraulic steering units like on high HP and multiple outboard setups.
Seems like that would be a no brainer for a 300" W.B. car.....

Just when you think you've seen it all......

I built my own dragster and I built the steering shaft with two u joints it it one to raise the column height but also so it has the ability to collapse and fold upon it self

Without a stop to keep it from running you through aren't you assuming things will happen in a certain way and direction?

Just an idea I had while getting ready to install the steering shaft.....Nothing wrong with "I wonder what if" moments...you should try it sometime
