Below is a class I have never raced before & I'm considering running it at this next event this coming week/weekend. I'll be running the No-Box bracket class for sure. Here's the opening paragraph of the rules listed in the link below: "CLASS DESCRIPTION: FigSpeed Open Comp is an “Open Comp Style” class that is designed for all Door Cars that uses a .400 or .500 Split Pro Tree…The “Open Comp” class will be run on an Open Comp format with a 1-tenth (1/10th) breakout. What this means is, you get 4 rounds of qualifying. You take 1/10th off your quickest time and that is your automatic dial-in for eliminations. This time will be yours throughout eliminations (it does not change). The best reaction time is the #1 qualifier, you will then be put on a Sportsman ladder for eliminations. There are basically no other rules in this class, so come out and have some fun." Here's my strategy for the class if I decide to run: I'll run the .500 Pro Tree. As for the 1-tenth (1/10th) breakout/automatic dial-in for eliminations. During qualifying rounds I'll get off the throttle around the 1,000' mark & kill around .13 in ET. This way I'll be carrying around .03 when racing. What do you guys think or what would be your strategy? https://streetcarsupernational...gas-rules-open-comp/ 2BKING ![]() 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3100 lbs. I'd lightly drag the brakes for a 1 count at the 330', or 660' at the latest. and be balls out to the finish for qualifying. Do a brush on the pedal at your spot during eliminations, or not, and play it as you see it from there. "Despite the high cost of living, it remains popular." Dave Cook N375

Thanks for the perspective Goob & I do have some early holds I could employ in this situation, but! The problem I have is way too much MPH for the vast majority of my races. The MPH is an advantage, but too much is not good & makes it harder to judge the finish line calls. I think you're agreeing with me that it's stupid to run a vehicle out & then take a .1 away from your fastest run as your personal index for your elimination rounds. It doesn't make sense to me to race like that! I just have to do it differently than you or even others because of my MPH advantage. Does that make sense to you or others? 2BKING ![]() 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3100 lbs. Pump Gas 436

Put 100-120 LBS.in the car and run it out. then remove what you need to hold what you want. Watch the weather if more than a one day race. Thats what we do.

I used to race open comp and triple index back in the day, but I am 'pro tree challenged' so I wasnt very good at it. They are fun classes and your plan of attack is spot on in open comp. I used to dump just before the mph cone but it takes my slow care a second just to go that last 100' LOL. You might look into super index, seeing as how you are keen on index racing, I like to run triple but then again the tree is my kryptonite

Add weight or pull timing, then last T/T put it back in "race mode" run it to the 1/8th, or 1000ft and see where u are at that's what we do.

Even though my last Index win was on a .400 pro tree, my car & I'm challenged with it. My best light was a .04x, that rules out Super Index. Plus, when I'm running no-box my set-ups are way different between the .400 pro tree & the .500 full tree. With the .500 pro/full tree, it's a simple change between transbrake buttons. I thank everyone for their different perspectives on Open Comp. 2BKING ![]() 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3100 lbs. Pump Gas 436

Seems like yall are over complicating this. Why not shift on time. For example my car if i shift at 2.25 i can go 5.78 if i shift at 1.25 i go 5.88 to 5.90. ep

Get on the road & show us how it's done! I'm doing what I normally do while racing, getting rid of mph. I also shift on time, but I still have to get rid of mph. Our car is set-up for a soft ET & lots of mph. Yes, I'm working on some different strategy but the way it's; is working great! This is something we envisioned when we built this ProCharged combo. I'm just trying to adapt/learn racing index without the use of a throttle stop & delay box. So far, I'm batting a 1000 in 2 races entered in this type of index & a bracket race (season ender) win. I think I'll keep things complicated! My racing strategy isn't complicated to me. It's something I learned a long time ago driving a 180-mph truck. 2BKING ![]() 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3100 lbs. Pump Gas 436

I think these sort of classes are all about the people avoiding electronics, sandbagging, and tough math / ET prediction equations. To each their own. You will get ruffled feathers if there are any obvious manipulations to hit your target package. You need to kill ET very early, where the least of actions produce the maximum result, and they aren't watching for a slight move made at 200-300 feet. Your big MPH is still a plus, and will be one of the things they'll be watching. "Despite the high cost of living, it remains popular." Dave Cook N375

I hear what you are keyboarding! I would think that would be in rules, but I guess not. At least Pinks All Out did it subjectively correct & in the rules. I know there are plenty of haters/purist out there that don't like the holding game. As for my big mph, the max has never been shown & wouldn't be at this event. THEY, where/how do you or the promoters draw the line of subjectively policing the spirit of the rules? Next will be my/your MPH doesn't look right compared to the ET. Heck, that would really F..k our bracket/index quad running mid to high 9s at 124 MPH all out. Again, I hear you! Not so sure I want to fight the battle if there's one. You have me thinking, do I want to enter the class? 2BKING ![]() 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3100 lbs. Pump Gas 436

No complex math or computer programs. Just how far from 1320 is your et * mph? Stan

LOL It was never in the rules that I couldn't run Pro and S/P in the same car, or run my G-20 Molester Edition tow van in S/P either,.....until I did. "Despite the high cost of living, it remains popular." Dave Cook N375

I've ran my car in both Pro & S/P & still can. Raced my old tow truck in a Box class & was cutting .00x lights, got protested for having a box. I'm no stranger to ruffling feathers & will probably enter Open Comp after thinking about my past racing escapades! 2BKING ![]() 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3100 lbs. As far as over complicating i was refering to all of the retard timing, add weight, drag brake. I personally shift on time to run our local 6.0 index stuff. Obviously you have an idea on how you want to approach this race so do that if it works for your program. I am not sure i understand the thread asking for suggestions if you already know what you want to do. Good luck in this race. I will be pulling for you. ep

EP, I see where you thought I was asking for suggestions in the OP. I stated my strategy & the closest thing I asked about something "What do you guys think or what would be your strategy?" Everyone pretty much included their opinion on how or what they would do, including you. I appreciate everyone's input! I might revisit the shift timer settings but from my limited testing. It didn't affect the ET as much being ProCharged vs. when I was NA. The boost just seems to power through shyt like that that. Goobs opinion got me thinking the most about the subject, rules & spirit of the rules. These streetcar/racers & promoters have a different way of looking at how a race should be; some good, some bad! Thanks for the luck & pulling for me! 2BKING is on a roll but it has to run out sometime! ![]() 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3100 lbs.
