This weekend at Keystone last race ever was in the 4th round and launched car. It did its usual thing and then went hard left. Kept it under control and off the barrier. Knew something broke by the sounds of it. Sheared the 35spline axle clean off outside the bearing of the large end Ford axle end. Wheel luckily did not hit anything body wise and was only being held on by the TBM caliper and broken twisted bracket. Car is 3304lbs and runs 1.24X 60t times. Just bought a new rear third member and I questioned Strange and they said I would never break any of that stuff. Axles have been in for 6 seasons - probably 1200+ runs. Had them out earlier in the seasona and did not see anything when I replaced the third member. Configuration: 3350#, 582 C.I., 60 - 1.24 1/8 - 5.53@ 126MPH 1/4 - 8.73@ 159MPH 3700#+210lb driver, FULL interior, through mufflers, 10.5 tire. 60'-1.333 (IN 4000ft DA! Joisy Math excluded; 1.25sec using JOISY MATH.) 1/4 - 9.60@144MPH

I have never seen a MW or Moser axle break. Every axle I've ever seen break was a Strange. With that said, I'll never buy another Moser product. Guess it's MW from here on out.

I recently saw an axle pic from a 3400# BBC on pump gas that runs 6.50 and had a restrictor plate running 7.20 break 35 spline Strange that was less than 2 yrs old. He replaced with 40 spline. Thought it was unusual.

You know you are near the limits so now looks like time to go to 40 spline axles. https://postimg.cc/gallery/np3zpruo/ "Dunning-Kruger Effect" -a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge. Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue. 4X NE2 CHAMPION. 2020 TDRA NE2 Champion

Upgrade to 40 now? fyi.. MW offers both their unique spec spline and Dana style spline axles.

You can see that axle was cracked for awhile prior to breaking. The dark spot was the crack. Was there a radius edge where the bearing seated against the flange? Kind looks like there wasn't and that could have been the start of the failure. My Moser 35 spline axles have lasted quite a bit longer than that....Like 5 or 6 times as long lol. Replacing them along with the rod ends over the winter.

Not sure if your last comment was specific to 40 spline or not, but I've been led to believe that 40 spline axles/spools are interchangeable between at least the Big 3 of MW, Strange, and Moser. 35 spline stuff is proprietary to each brand though. Tony Leonard

No it wasn’t, and you are correct. If OP wanted standard 35 spline keeping his spool MW offers both standard and MW spline.

Any chance that you reinstalled the axles on opposite side of where they were originally? The only axle I've broken was because I had done that. "Despite the high cost of living, it remains popular." Dave Cook N375
