Having work for Darryl I can say the guy had a passion for drag racing like no other and really thought he could make a difference. The choice that if something is for sale "lets buy it" amazed me. However I felt that we had good thing going and racers that I still speak with today would go back at the drop of dime along with probably every employee. His dealing and trust with Elon Musk was a sad deal. I spoke with Darryl right after it started to fall apart and it was pretty tough for Him as He felted betrayed by a person He thought was a friend He honestly thought He'd get enough money to continue through the triple crown race at Columbus. Sadly it didnt and now tracks are up for auction and the whole thing is just a train wreck. Hopefully everything works out for the best.

Elon Musk was paying him to build for his SpaceX project not IHRA. It appears that Darryl took money he was getting paid to build for SpaceX and was spending it on IHRA? In fact it appears Darryl was spending money on IHRA intended for SpaceX that he did not even have in hand yet. It appears Darryl "Bought" tracks and other stuff but never paid for them? Darryl has every right to spend his personal money or profit on his personal projects but you do the job you get paid for first and fulfill your contractual obligations first. Someone said Richard Freeman was considering buying it for like 500 million dollars. We all know it is not worth that much but brings up a question. Where would all that money go to? He never really paid for the tracks, trucks and all the other stuff he bought. You can not really "Sell" anything you do not own and have not paid for so who gets the money? Who gets the weenie?

The lawsuit (my understanding) claims he did not do the work Elon paid for or contracted for and also used the company name on IHRA promotional material with out permission. Once again Elon paid to get a job done not to buy and build IHRA. Will there be more lawsuits from the track, truck dealership and other places where he bought stuff he never paid for? He may end up getting sued from both ends on this deal and he will probably lose.

I do not know all the gory details and do not have the time or care enough to find out. Nevertheless I will say from what I have seen Darryl will lose big in court and in reality Elon is losing to because he did not get the job done he contracted for setting him back on time critical job. The tracks (and others) who sold and never got paid are losing out.
The Racers are losing out so this has taken a bad situation and really made a mess out of it. While he may have had good intentions and high hopes fact is IHRA was not that strong before and he made it worse for all.

Absolutely agree the whole thing is a Train wreck and hopefully everything works out for the best. This whole thing bothers me because I also had high hopes for it but saw this coming and hoped we would doge the bullet. My thinking there was it is not my money, not my circus so hopefully he knows what he is doing. He may not have planned for it to work out like this but he is responsible for it and now we do not know where it goes from here so it effects us.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.

Wealth addiction is as powerful as any other, but instead of urging addicts to get help, we often admire them. Yet they do much more damage to the world at large than your average coke fiend. INCLUDING politicians and their adventures.AKA In it for the money.

Curly, your kinda correct. Darryl had a very large contract to build data center for Musk which he was doing until Musk wanted to change the rules of the game in the middle of the game which he is well known for doing. Dont get to be the richest man in the world without stepping on toes. Yes, Darryl was spending some of that money on IHRA which there is nothing wrong with that. When Musk decided to change the rules and not pay Darryl put lien on the projects and stop moving forward with the projects. Musk then filed his lawsuit against Darryls company Darana Hybrid for failure complete the projects and all kinds of other lawyer stuff and now thats how things ended up the way they are. IHRA, which really had a chance to do something for the racers and give you another sand box to play in and a number of tracks are back on the market. A little side note to the tracks is that a number of people who making bids is very interesting especially for Galot.

I look at the whole deal like Gambling. I do not gamble but if I did I would not gamble any more than pocket money I could afford to throw away. For some people that may be a few hundred dollars for others it may be millions of dollars. (Not me but for some people)
Buying the IHRA was a risky deal to start off with and it appears that he was spending money he did not have to do it.

I just spent a LOT of money on airplanes, hangars and land. Now I paid cash for it and I think I got a very good deal on all of it. But I did not finance one single thing and if something happened and I lost it all with no insurance or anything else I would still be fine and never miss a meal. Same with my racing operation, I may not have the best most expensive stuff but I paid cash for it and realize there is possibility I could crash, blow up motor or what ever and would not effect my bills and personal life one bit.

I do not know about Musk changing rules of game but it appears that Darryl was spending money he did not have in hand and could not afford to lose. I would never do that.

What do you know about who and what they are bidding on the tracks? I really do hope it works out well but it sure looks bad from here. We may be lucky to keep any of them as racing tracks.

Darryl is getting taken to court by Elon for fraud. He was billing for work that hadn't been done, over billing, etc. and got caught. Elon shut him off when he found out what was going on. The whole deal is a mess and from the information I've seen so far, Darryl is a underhanded pos and a thief. Problem is, Elon is one hell of alot smarter than he is, and he's going to lose his behind in court. He'll be lucky to keep his company by the time it's all said and done.

I was super excited about what it all started off to be, but when it just kept going and going I knew it would come crashing down. It's been said a million times, if you want to make a million dollars in racing, start with two......Had he started with just one track or maybe two, and grew it from there, I'm betting it would have been successful. But going for broke all at once, claiming he'd bought tracks that later said he didn't, etc.....well, this is what happens. A fool and his money are soon parted, and it looks like that fool Darryl.

We can hope he has to change the name of it after he plastered it all over racetracks.

Mark, Darryl shut Elon off when he place a liens on the job and then Elon came up with all the other stuff. No matter what Darryl does Elon is bigger and has deeper pockets. Its going to be a long time before this is all settled and like most things on the internet it will long gone and everyone will move on to the next crisis.
