IMO that is bs. So guy went too fast. Make him run another qualifying run or not in field. Hell anyone can have equipment failure like stops not working or timing controller f-up. Faster than 6.00 requires different equipment certifications, floater, wing, etc. So the "event" disqualification is due to the lack of proper equipment. 5.99 and quicker is a bit more serious than just dipping below the Index. The -.10 below the Index is a grace area (no penalty area), below that it's a different can of worms. Some folks are pretty skilled at knowing where, and how much to dump. 6.101 at 200 is a fair indication that they know, (not guess) where and when to leave the party. Bob | |||

A floater rear end is required in Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car, it can be used in a TD but not required, most TD's do not have one. There are other driver and chassis TAD requirements to go quicker than 6.00. I don't remember ever seeing one in a T/S, might be one or two, I've just never seen it. Still can't go quicker than 6.00. I got no dog in this fight so just throwing this out there. I understand NHRA stance on under 6.00 even though I think it is too strict. I think the Event Disqualification is probably for insurance and liability reasons. Should something happen at 5.99 or faster then they would sue saying NHRA knew the car was not made or certified to run that speed and NHRA is responsible because they allowed it. Since they made the 6.10 rule it seems to me like it is a fast bracket race. So why not make it a 6.10 INDEX race or even a 6.90 INDEX? Because you would loose half the field. TD has done a better job filling fields than TS. These cars are running TAD speeds and most cases sub 5’s. You are correct Curly it is a faster bracket race, a really fast one. Dumping at 230+ mph is a bit challenging, you only have to skrew up a little to create a lot of scrap metal. Part of the concern is the speed differential between someone getting into the class with a 175 mph Super Comp dragster and racing a 234 mph fast actuall Top Dragster. 48 car fields (Division 7) insure that's going to happen. Barry (BP758) might have the right answer, at 230 (which is about 184 at 660) perhaps some adjustment to the TD spec should change to a TAD spec. 248 mph has already happened and it's likely to happen again. Question: #1: What does a dragster involved in a 75 mph collision look like. Some re-thing needs to happen. Question #2: How do you disqualify (From the event) a legal TAD competing in Top Dragster if he/she goes under the 6.00 Index? Bob | |||

The rule applies to the class as a whole, so no matter the chassis spec, still cant go under… even if a TAD wanted to run with us they cant go under J.R. If I was to build a new fast TD, having a floater rear end would not even be in question. My TD ran 6.00 @ 235 and I always wished it had one for safety reasons alone but the chassis was originally built to TD spec in 2011 when a 6.50 car was fast. As far as the 6.10 rule, it came out a year after I entered TD. Did I like it, hell no after building my car to run on the floor of the class but just had to deal with it. IMO The rule of being booted out for going under is self policing, if you go under its your own fault and nobody else's | |||
