Tahiti itself is good for landing the airplane only IMO.....take the ferry over to Moorea to actually vacation. Make sure you get by Allo's pizza place for the banana pizza....trust me. A rental car for a couple of days will let you see the entire island but rent scooters and go up in the hills for the ancient ruins kinda stuff.
Many things to do if you look/explore...if you're bored in Moorea you're sitting in your room to much lol...
Never took a cruise there...and I love me a cruise...have to look into it..
