I didn't read all the posts so sorry if this was already asked...I'm assuming you collected a lot of "reverse bounties" on you?

It's an 87 Cutlass that has been in my family since new.

It will have stock front and rear suspension, no wheel tubs, so a 10" tire. 9" rear, 4.30 gears and an FTI (what else?) glide. Aluminum interior, 10 point cage, keeping the electric windows (it's hot in Florida).

I'll be running local brackets and some index stuff. I suspect it will run mid-high 10's, if I'm ever able to run 1/4 mile.

As far as the engine goes yes, as the saying goes, "That thing got a Hemi".

I built a stroked 6.1 (370") Gen3 Hemi that is now 420". It's a mild (6500rpm) motor, 11.25CR, mild hydraulic roller cam with stock cnc'ed 6.1 heads and a dual plane intake. No fuel injection, I'm using a 4150 carb from Mark Whitner. The biggest challenge with this build is the headers. Nothing off the shelf, either manifolds or headers would come close to working, so I'm having headers built for it now.

Well, King since you bumped this dead thread TTT I guess I should update what's going on with the Cutlass, AKA "Oldsmopar".....

I made some changes/improvements to the engine, installed a more aggressive cam (still pretty mild though) and switched to a single plane intake, it is still 11:25 compression.

I have also built another 420" Hemi that has better heads, 13:1 compression and a more aggressive cam than my milder engine.

The car itself remains the same, still on a 10" tire. I recently put it on a diet and was able the take 185# off, so it crosses the scales at 3100# with me in it. Haven't run it yet at this weight but will soon. It's still all steel except for the hood and still has all glass windows, don't forget the power windows! LOL

As far as performance goes, with the mild engine it has gone 6.39 before the weight reduction. And with the better engine also before weight reduction it has gone 6.12, but since then I have switched cam's and had some work done on the intake on the faster engine. All these times were through the mufflers.

So, after the diet and changes on the good engine I'm expecting (hoping) for ET's in the 5's in decent weather......we'll know in a couple of months when it finally cools off here.

I haven't run it very much and not at all in the heat of summertime. I'm too old for the crap.

Interestingly enough the first time out with the car at G-ville on a bracket night, I went to the finals, then two weeks later did the same thing. First time I did have some luck and the car was just OK, second time after a few small changes the car was deadly, and I drove pretty well too, except in the final! LOL

Stockers running. It’s kicking my a… just finished motor check etc… it’s at 60 under and it will not rpm. Like a governor.. it’s a pig until I figure out why.
GTO is ok. Hauling. I’ve talked with Moe a few times and Charlie too.

Brian,
How far are you from Orlando? My daughter just moved there last month. Looks like we will be making some trips out that way.

Glad you are doing well and sounds like the car is coming right along.

Sounds like a fuel supply problem?

I guess .60 is not good enough? Isn't it just a dial in deal anyway, unless you're running someone in the same class?

I'm almost 100 miles north of Orlando.

If you get a chance, Garlits museum is 10 miles south of me. If you've never been, it's a must see. I could meet you there!

Yeah it’s a shoe polish ( some bottles have bad numbers) class but I’m also about performance. Last pass before a blew it up ( my fault) was 10.13 130 and there was more. This is all new except for the cam. I have everything to upgrade fuel system. 400 pump and a return system. Car ran well before 131.97 before with current fuel system so??
Throw it on the pump next couple of weeks and see.
We’ll figure it out….
