$7k a person?

Not sure what your idea of a vacation is but that seems really cheap.

For sitting around a nice pool with drinks, or eating great food, I can do all that within 15 minutes of my house.

NAILED IT! Doesn't cost a fortune either!

Last summer we were going to take a family vacation to the Bahamas. With the concern about getting stuck because of the Covid crap we decided to stay in the States.

We spent a week in Anna Maria Island, FL instead. We had a great time. There was just 12 of the fam so it was pretty cheap for a family vacation. I'm more of a mountain guy but the wife and all the girls love the beach. It's really cool that there is only one fast food place on the island and it was grandfathered in before the ordinance against them.

Quite honestly, I've never understood the concept of laying on a beach and drinking. We've done Disney a couple of times. I suppose that's the most vacationy-vacation thing we've done.

Last March, we had a cabin at Hocking Hills for the weekend. Didn't cost hardly anything, did lots of hiking and enjoyed a lot of the wonders of nature not far from home. Another vote for parks.

looks like my backyard.

Seriously though, there are places right here in the Continental US that are much less expensive to visit, and just as pretty (and I've been to Oahu and Kauai). Couple of the places that I've personally been "were" as pretty until Ian took care of that last year, but there is always Caribbean. National parks are mostly pretty nice as well; and dirt cheap in comparison to about anywhere in Hawaii.

I spent zero time vacationing when I was growing up. Dad didn't have no money to take us nowhere. So we sat at the house, and occasionally went to a local lake to go fishing or whatever. Camping twice that I can remember at a couple of state parks. Then I got old enough to work, and did that, and still do. I can afford vacations. I just don't go that often. Most of them are a waste of money considering what's in my back yard, which is free and easily accessible without flying or driving anywhere. If we get burned out on the usual destinations, we'll do something different but usually within the US, and typically nowhere near the "normal" destinations that 'everyone else" goes to. I don't care for the crowds and I think that the better destinations are not advertised or talked about, and for good reason.

I have been all around the World and have been blessed to see things most never see. I am to the point where I do not like travel at all. Do not care if I never get on another plane in my life. Just nothing much more I care to see and it is not about the money.

For those who want to go on expensive vacations do it, your money do what ever you want. Can not take it with you when you die.

I was about to post nearly the exact same thing. Been to many more places than I ever wanted to. I love staying home. I am mostly retired, so everyday is pretty much an excellent vacation for me. Take care. Tom Worthington

If it seems that bracket racing has gotten too expensive for you, maybe you are just doing it wrong.

I feel the same way as Curly1. I've traveled all over the world, seen things 99% of the population will never get to see, and done more than most can even dream of. I do still have a couple of places I want to go on my bucket list, but if I don't make it, I don't care...not a big deal. Personally, when I take a vacation, it's my time to relax, get away from everything and just chill....My home in the mountains gives me that and more. Right down the road are some of the best atv trails in the country, and go the other way, one of the finest race tracks in the country...so I'm good....

Those thinking about National Parks, it's been over 30 years ago but I spent some time in Yellowstone staying in Old Faithful Lodge. Those lodges are owned by the park service and back then your room charge basically paid for the management company that ran the place. And it was reasonable! Now days you have to book a lot longer in advance but I haven't looked into the cost again! $ for racecar or $ for vacation and make the GF happy? This isn't going to be good!

I am blessed to live on 200 acres of land and my house is over 1/8 mile from road so it is rather private. Long before I would spend a bunch of money on vacation I would build a really nice fishing lake here. I have other projects I have to finish first though.

I can understand those wanting to go places but for me I am happy right here building cars, racing and living on my property. We have had Ice and snow here and I have not even left the house since Sunday and I am good with that. I am done with travel and it is definitely not fun any more. I have gotten to where I do not even care to go into city much. My GF is same way about travel now so that helps.

Still it is your money and if travel makes you happy then do it. I suspect whole reason this topic was brought up is because like me travel just is not much fun any more and has become a waste of money.

At my age,82, you look back and wonder. He may not remember but I remember telling Mikey to go for it when he had the chance to go out of the country for work. I had done the same. 23 countries later I have no desire to head out of the country. I, like some above, have been places others will never be able to go. Can I say Cuba and Libya? Also been to many top shelf tourist places all over the world. Last few years I have spent a lot of time looking at our own country--we have plenty here to see without bragging about how much money we spend. But if thats your thing have at it

We do one real vacation per year to Hawaii for 10 days, this year it's the Big Island which is our favorite. We do a AirBnb condo, fly first class and don't worry about the cost while there, if I had to that I wouldn't go.

All in it's usually in the 12-15,000 range for my wife and I. We usally do a few mini vacations to Vegas, AZ and a great spot on the WA coast.

We love racing but we made a decision a few years ago that we are going to travel and enjoy life outside of work and racing. It's worth every damn penny.

Every year? Nope, for me once or twice would be enough.

I remember it well Fern. Have been on the road since 2005. It comes and goes. Right now I’m working at home but who knows where the next project will take me. Since that time, I’ve been all over the world, made great friends all over the world, and even have had American Airlines shuttle me around airports in an Escalade. Luckily I learned early to find balance, so home life has been great too.

All of that was fun. Summer baseball with my boy is even more fun and has gotten us to some places we wouldn’t otherwise go.

Chris, $30K for 4 people for 12 days in Hawaii.., Maui and Kauai staying at two 5 star properties and all the activities including scuba diving, dinner cruise was worth every penny and I'll do it again. Further our planned tripped to Mykonos and Santorini will top $35K and my bucket destination to Maldives will top $40K.

That said, my time on this rock is running out, don't know when my ticket is punched but know this is my one and only life so I'm going to live my best life.

BTW, this was my 2nd time in Hawaii and Maui, went there on my 3 week honeymoon back in '85 and stayed at the resort right next door to the 4 Seasons where we stayed in 2019.

So my advice to you is live a little, spend some of that Torque Tools $ and take your family on a vacation to Hawaii or maybe Maldives.

Ed, you waste your money how you please...and so will I. Vacations are not about how much money you COULD spend, it's about the time you have doing it.

I have been blessed, I don't need to burn money to prove it.

I have built shops to keep my race game in, I have built shops to keep my rig in on my property.

To each their own I say. Enjoy how you please.
