Our markets are f i c k l e. Consumer confidence seems to "trump" actual performance at times. Laughing my a$$ off

Many business owners including myself, simply feel more "confident" with a businessman in the Whitehouse versus a politician.

Economists credit two things, President Trump and his tax bill.....

“There is definitely a sense in the business community that the president’s actions on taxes and regulations have led to a more pro-growth environment for them to operate,” said Chad Moutray, chief economist at the National Association of Manufacturers.

The entire conversation only has so much value. Yes I like my 401K to grow. And Wall Street doing well helps that happen. But pushing the needle on Main Street takes longer and more deliberate actions. We will see how the tax bill does in that area coming up. Healthy trade market is not the only ingredient to a healthy economy. Frankly, we need more people working, and making more money in better jobs....and we need them to spend that money. Pretty simple.

Apple using tax reform to repatriate billions of dollars and create thousands of jobs should be a good thing..........

Or Fiat-Chrysler announced plans to invest $1 billion in Michigan and Ohio plants....

Intel announced last year that it will be investing $7 billion in Arizona....

Boeing announced that it will invest $300 million.....

I'm going to go ahead and assume you're not an idiot. So what you were actually trying to do is give Obama the credit you thought he deserved compared to Trump. You asked...I told you...Question answered

***No where in my post was a comparison made. That's in your mind, not in my post...
----------

You wanted to make sure Obama got the credit you feel he deserves compared to Trump.... You WERE comparing the 2 correct?

***Again, no comparison made. A comparison would have been written like this: S&P gains (as a percentage) for first 11 months of administration per Obama=36.9% COMPARED to Trump=18%. Dow percentage was higher for Obama than Trump (average over first 11 months) also.
That is written and can be read as a comparison... It's a factual statement too...

-------

YOU posted " IF that happens; When that happens; only then will the percentage of gain during the period of March 2009 through January 2017 be EQUALED. The Dow at 47,000+ is a lofty goal. IF achieved, great. IF surpassed, even better."

I think it's fair to presume when you keep asking if something is going to be happening relative to a given future time frame it would be viewed as a "what if". You're verbiage certainly isn't asking "WHEN if" or "WHY if"......

***You are correct regarding my verbiage. My verbiage DID NOT ASK anything, nothing in my post asked or inferred a question...

I will say, yes, I'm pleasantly surprised the markets performed well, in spite of Obama's time as potus..

***Your statement acknowledges market gains during Obama's term yet you refuse to credit him in the same way as you choose to credit Trump for the same by stating "in spite". That's hypocrisy at it's finest...

I have a question now...are you even active in the market(s)?

***Above is a great example of what a question looks like. The following is an example of what an answer to that question might look like;

Yes I am...

I belong to the Michigan Employees Retirement System. A few years before I retired it went quasi-private. It's in good shape and well managed. More people paying in than retired.

My other personal stuff is going great guns. I also have an account that is part of the U.S, Conference of Mayors. In exchange for custody of my kids I had to give all the money in it to my ex. But, I've had 26 years to rebuild it. I could only add to it while I was working and that was just five years. I've self directed it since and it's done okay. As I have to begin distributions when I'm 70 1/2 I made some aggressive changes and they've really paid off. In, 2019 I have to start taking distributions. I'm a poor racer and I need the money.

I use 10% for most of my holdings. But it depends on if, or how much, I'm upside down. My dividend paying stocks/funds or reits paying over 8% I tend to add to on dips because I hate money sitting in my account earning 1/2%.
This might be a bumpy ride for a while. Lots of steam to blow off..

See my earlier post from Jan 13.....This market was due for a big correction. 8 % down in the last week. Is it done dropping or is it going to slide even more. Like I said in January, I pulled all my retirement funds out months ago......Once the market stabilizes and hits bottom I will buy back in. I highly doubt the roller coaster ride will stop for a while.

The 1500+ point DOW CRASH today (2/5/18) sure provided an opportunity to do some buying didn't it? Another "historic first", "believe me", "it was uuge", "big ley", "I'd have to say biggest ever, period"...

It did rebound some though, it finished the day only 1,175 points down...

I'm pretty sure anyone with a TV or computer knows the market was down today.

Enjoy the ride "for a while". I'm glad to see all the positive numbers of overall stock market, unemployment, labor participation, rising wages, etc. It's good for the American people. However the elephant in the room remains, debt/deficient. It surges ahead unabated without any political will to address spending/entitlements. If the politicians chose to ignore it, it will correct itself and it won't be gentle when it does.

Three years from now someone will have to address that big time.
