I had already planned not to race as much this year, opting instead to work on the house more and spend more time camping and atving. It's a choice. Bandimere is about 30 min away so it's not an issue and I don't travel to races, although I'm considering running a couple of races with the Rocky Mountain Superchargers group. Not supercharged but I can play with them, they welcome racers with open arms and pay well to race. Race coming up in Julesburg next weekend I think, might go....Haven't looked that far into the schedule yet...... Fuel prices will definitely affect things, but I'll keep doing what I'm doing anyway.....what I hate is the sudden 20-50 cent per week increases we keep seeing.....with no end in sight.....FJB!!!!! I've been watching this thread with interest as to how others approach rising fuel costs. I retired at age 48 and am now 73. In all that time I never took a part time job nor cared to. Thought about it once for about 15 minutes. I just wanted to race. Managing my investments, income, and nest egg have allowed me to race the way I do. Always, I thought, this has to last to my late 80s if I make that long. I've decided not to race as hot and heavy as in the past. I love NHRA Super Street racing but, I just don't want to do the traveling anymore. I'll do the Gainesville and Orlando Div. 2 races only. I've also decided not to experiment or try to go faster anymore. 8.60s and 10.90 at 150 is just fine. I told my wife I didn't want to spend that much in diesel fuel to travel. But, I realize I'm using that as an excuse and I think others here are as well. There are others that race with their sons and I deeply envy them. My oldest kids had longer military careers and have their own lives out of state. The youngest has a job he loves in Michigan and is too old to change that. The thing I don't want to do is slam anyone for the level they race at. I don't know their story so I guess they have their reasons. It's just good that they race. nomad Bruce Guertin Easily distracted by bright shiny objects. Wife says I'm a new adventure every day. This is an interesting point, although a little off-topic. I'll share my experience. In my late teens and early 20's (early 80's through about 1990) I was a broke college student still figuring out what I was gonna do in life. My uncle, who had raced NASCAR modifieds on local short tracks in the 60's, decided to go racing again on dirt tracks. He was about 40 at that point. I was thrilled to go to his house on the weekends, help get the car ready, then go to the track on Saturday nights. When he first started racing again, he had a hobby stock (a late 70's Camaro) he towed on an open trailer, behind a 1976 4WD Chevy stepside pickup. My uncle and aunt rode in the cab to the track, and my cousin and I rode in the back, in the bed of the truck, with the jack, lug wrench, and a couple of spare tires. It was enormous fun. As the years passed, my uncle progressed to racing a late model, first with a box truck and an open trailer, then later a dually and a massive triple axle enclosed trailer. Engines and other parts got way more expensive, there was now a posse of helpers and hangers-on at the track, etc, etc. BUT, it wasn't any more fun, at least not to me. In fact, as I look back on it, it was the most fun when it was just the four of us with the hobby stock, the half-ton truck, and the open trailer. I have applied that lesson to my racing. I keep it VERY simple. I race a footbrake car that I tow on an open trailer behind my Suburban, and that's all I aspire to do. I love it. I have no want or need of a professionally built car, enclosed trailer, golf cart, $80,000 diesel truck, etc, etc. I could afford it - just don't care for it. I prefer simple and easy. And the price of fuel doesn't impact me at all. Mike

This is in downtown LA. Not racing related but I see a lot of people going deep in debt charging there gas on a CC and only paying the minimum payment with 20% interest. I mean how can the average person making less than $50K a year afford to drive

This is so true and that is who these prices are hurting. The families who were already living paycheck to paycheck are really suffering now. I can afford to race and pay these prices so I will keep doing what I do. It does piss me off every time I fill up my car, truck or MH but that's the situation we are in and I'm not going to let it consume my life.

Hold on to what you've got, it's about to get worse. Oil at a $115 and it will probably hit $120 in a couple weeks. Summer use is going to drive things up again. It actually bumped over $119 today and fell back. ____________________________ 2017 and 2018 Osage Casinos Tulsa Raceway Park No-Box Champion 2018 Div4 Goodguys Hammer award winner

The families who were already living paycheck to paycheck are really suffering now. In my opinion these are the people who never stop spending. Average family vacationing , eating out, kids have everything, living in houses they can't afford, buying vehicles, 4 wheelers , motorcycles, wives getting hair and nails , etc etc. No one I know complains about affording food, clothes , utilities, taxes. Actually now that I think about it, people actually brag about being on unemployment, taking advantage of the system and not paying bills on time. Everyone wants everything no matter the tax bracket they fit in.

But the value of our dollar now coupled with the loss of refining capacity on top of shipping fuel to Europe and South America makes it different. I’m not saying gas didn’t get high then but we hadn’t just printed gobs of money drawing down the dollar. ____________________________ 2017 and 2018 Osage Casinos Tulsa Raceway Park No-Box Champion 2018 Div4 Goodguys Hammer award winner
