Cash Flow, 7 years ago Bob Nichols won the D-3 JEGS Superquick championship. My comment to you is one of encouragement, Bob had his knee replaced mid-season (early August) and two weeks after surgery was back in his dragster for a race in Paducah Kentucky. It can be done. The only down side was the 5 hour tow home ( I did all the driving) and his constant complaining about his knee. I gave him a hydrocodone and he finally went to sleep for a few hours. BTW, he never regretted his decision to race. Good Luck and listen to your therapist.

This was a great post. I was wondering how others felt myself. I am already changing plans for the remainder of the year. Will not quit even at $10 or more a gallon, but will attend less races than originally planned. And I am not a broke **** or NHRA hater. But when the price of a lottery ticket hits $10,and the grand prize if you win is $5,that is when I don't buy as many tickets.

We run at Immokalee and Bradenton for most part with PBIR gone. 51 miles and 80 miles. At 10 mpg in RV, no issue.
I see the increase in fuel cost as a major negative but being retired is no issue for us. We can afford to do whatever we want. I see it as bigger issue for next generations as daily/weekly cost is skyrocketing for them.
We will continue racing though will leave small pump gas motor in car for now. Offsets some of the operating cost.
Out of town races not likely short term as I just had converter sprag fail and likely all data will now be different.

Malicious, Not quite 4 weeks out of surgery. Walked the dog this morning but my problem is I have 12 foot long legs. I actually think I can get in the car but not sure if I can get out even with the pull-out. Plus, two weeks in I got a bad case of the Shingles. They are not fun!
I really wanted to run the double in Dallas but when the Shingles hit I said no freaking way. Might just wait till Denver, not sure.
I will race some this season, car is in the trailer ready to go. The cost of diesel sucks but it won’t stop me from going.
Question for Ed, are you guys running Numidia this weekend?

Local track costs me $35 in fuel to go race and 3 others that I travel to it costs me $145-$165 and $200 fuel for bracket finals so not much will change for me.

We just went to St Louis and back for an NMCA race. Car ran like poo since we lost a shock but we did what we could. Anyway fuel was $1650 for the trip, for the most part diesel was in the mid $5 range for the trip but saw prices from $5.29-$5.79, plus meals, drinks and hotel it was not a cheap weekend. We are still waiting on pistons to frehsen up this engine. Next race will be in Martin. MI in July, but we wont go unless we can get the engine frehsened up as she is overdue. Cant wait to see that fuel bill.

My plans haven’t changed too much at this point. I did take Denver off my calendar, although my plan for the year was to maximize my kids’ opportunities locally in their final year of juniors whenever I’m not using my NHRA gold card.
Of course, “local” for us means 80-200 miles each way.
I couldn’t imagine any fuel prices making me quit altogether.

You have to ignore his juvenile responses. He only responds to hero worship.....not intelligent bantar and debate. As Jok kindly said he has issues. Cheers to you sir.

Not assumption, FACT, you’re a broke dyck who does not have the $$$ to buy a new distributor, no mind afford the price at the pump to get to the race track.

If you were stupid enuff to get into drag racing you had to have $$$ to pizz away anyways. Now either spend it to get to a track or complain and not go at all. Either way a broke dyck.
Gas price in El Cajon, Ca this morning was $6.599, diesel was $6.995.
I can attend two (2) NHRA LODRS events (total of 6 days) or spend 7 days in Kauai Hawaii with my wife. Not hard to figure that one out, especially when she gets to vote.

Great opportunity for tracks to sell spots and provide security so racers leave their trailers at the track and can just drive their econo car to the track. Tracks like Farmington that rent garages makes it easier on racers.

I am lucky enough to be about 20 miles from my home track, and Keystone rents pit spots. I leave my car in the trailer and drive the hot rod Focus wagon to and from the track. I'm a footbraker on a budget, so I've never traveled too much to begin with. I'm hoping to make the WFC this year, but I have to take all costs into consideration, not just the entry and buyback fees.
No one is ever happy about the rising costs of anything. I'm grateful to be able to afford the expenses like gas, groceries, whatever entertainment I choose, in addition to the mortgage and utilities.

Renting spots is fine as long as you don't have a race that draws a bunch of out of towners and the locals don't come leaving most of the best spots empty. In recent years I noticed that there are no reserved spots at VMP when they have special events. Other tracks that rent spots should try that practice. I also don't save any spots, you want a good parking spot get your a$$ to the track. Farmington has about 15 garages but NO rental spots. That practice is good for the tracks bottom line so I support it with exceptions I have mentioned. I will not leave my stuff at any track, no way. But I have left my motor home, race car, and trailer at my friends and drove my car the 120 miles to the track as it saved, at that time, about $90 each week. Would be $150 at todays prices.
