“Excess deaths” is a term or concept allowing a way of determining a reasonable estimate of deaths associated with Covid-19.

Here is a primer to “excess deaths” and it’s use in epidemiology.

The above CDC link states “During the 2019-2020 influenza season, CDC estimates that influenza was associated with 38 million illnesses, 18 million medical visits, 405,000 hospitalizations, and 22,000 deaths.”

Kind of missed the boat on that “equal to or less than” the recent flu season nonsense.

In the meantime, the second CDC link above states:

“During January 26, 2020–February 27, 2021, an estimated 545,600–660,200 more persons than expected died in the United States from all causes. The estimated number of excess deaths peaked during the weeks ending April 11, 2020, August 1, 2020, and January 2, 2021. Approximately 75%–88% of excess deaths were directly associated with COVID-19.”

409,200 at minimum to 580,976 at most, in the time frame stated in the link. So 591,000 from who ever and when ever seems in the ball park.

So, it seems that 60,000 number is a case of extreme bull**** on someone’s part, not the CDC!

Oh and remember you were willing to accept CDC's supposed 60,000 number when it supported your foolish idea of only 60,000 covid-19 deaths. Don't now say the directly linked to numbers from CDC are bull****.

The origins of COVID-19 specifically and more generally the group of SARS viruses that caused this current outbreak (SARS CoV2) are fairly well understood from a science perspective.

Being that republicans are heading into the mid-terms and don’t appear to have enough conspiracy theories of go around, at least that the electorate is likely to respond to, ginning some up seems a high priority for Republicans. Making this a good cudgel with which to attempt to beat the current administration with, and, deflect from the lack of response to and foot dragging on their part to the pandemic as a whole from day one.

We know that from the early days of the Biden presidency and before, that US intelligence agencies, as well as other us agencies, have been tasked with discovering where and how COVID-19 started in China. Given that the Wuhan lab has been tasked with studying this group of viruses, among others, and has done so for quite a period of time the possibility does exist that it somehow escaped the lab, however unlikely. Also given that the Lab is situated in close proximity to places in china that are known reservoirs of these viruses it seems more likely this is the “origin” of the virus. Given the known elicit trade of pangolins’ (a known reservoir of SARS viruses) as well as various bats, also reservoirs, in the area further boosts this likelihood.

But yeah, it’s all codger Joe who is at fault and is clueless. For what reason, his lack of public hand waving and public threats directed at China? Mean while we have people here still adhering to stupid ideas that there have only been 60,000 deaths from COVID-19.
