On Monday, the Obama administration announced that President Obama would veto a defense authorization bill if it did not close down Guantanamo Bay. White House press secretary Josh Earnest explained that the House funding bill would be vetoed “principally because…of the irresponsible way that it funds our national defense priorities, but also because of the efforts to prevent the closure [of] the prison at Guantanamo Bay.” He added that Democrats would sustain Obama’s veto, and defense authorization would die.

Obama Vetoes $612B Defense Bill Over Gitmo, Increased Defense Spending

President Obama is keeping a promise by vetoing the $612 billion defense policy bill, inviting reporters and photographers to watch him wield his veto pen in the Oval Office.

“Obama says he opposes the bill because it uses creative budget maneuvers to boost defense spending by $38 billion without increasing domestic spending. Obama wants higher spending for both,” reports ABC News, which also mentions the President was upset that the bill would make it harder for him to close the terrorist detention facility at Guantanamo Bay.

“The fact President Obama would walk away from his responsibilities as commander-in-chief at such a dangerous time in an attempt to reverse unrelated budget caps he signed into law shows how out of place his priorities are,” Priebus continued. “Hillary Clinton’s silence amid this irresponsible brinksmanship is telling and she should immediately call on President Obama to fund our military with no strings attached.”

I bad mouth the man named Hussein in the white house as much as anybody. It amuses me that people are forever trying to apply logic to his actions when it is as simple as "anti-American". He promised to fundamentally change America and he has.... goal accomplished. All the criminals and poor have poured in from the southern boarders. Terrorist Syrians will be pouring in. He's releasing criminals, mostly negros, and dumping them on society. Meanwhile fueling the fires of anti-police. Honestly I'm inclined to believe BK's implication of marshal law. Either way there won't be any cleaning it up regardless of Trump's rhetoric. Bottom-line, the US voters gave him two terms and now America is what the people wanted. When a socialist can run and get the support Bern has America has turned the page. How people can not grasp the failing of Europe is beyond me.

The national unemployment rate in October fell to 5 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Friday — the lowest mark of the Obama presidency.

Namely, 5 percent unemployment means we're on the edge of the 4.9 percent level that the Federal Reserve considers as necessary for "full employment," Sho Chandra writes for Bloomberg.

The timing couldn't be more important; Fed economists are meeting next month, and Friday's strong jobs report and low unemployment rate could encourage them to hike US interest rates for the first time in nearly a decade.

And 5 percent unemployment is an incredible symbol, too. Six years ago this week, BLS reported that unemployment had passed 10 percent, the first time in decades that the US unemployment rate had hit double digits, and a visible sign of how bad the Great Recession really had become.

Obama can now argue that under his watch, unemployment has been cut in half. It's a striking improvement — especially when measured against Obama's predecessor.

President George W. Bush inherited 4.2 percent unemployment in January 2001. That rate had grown to 7.8 percent when he left office eight years later and hit 8.3 percent in the first full month of Obama's presidency
