What everyone running these days 12 volt?

DieHard AGM battery technology, they're extra heavy.

Bad to the bone.

Batteries Plus sells a standard size version, I have two in the duramax. Never seen anything like AGM.

Optima ain't in the same league.

I replaced my 9 yr old Odyssey 34/78 PC1500DT in July 2021 with same new one. Still worked but seamed to crank slightly slower. Gave it to a friend for his trailer winch battery and works fine for him. I like these best for 12v and dual terminal. Weighs 50#

Brian, as you know, I'm no longer running 12 volt batteries but before 2021 all I ran in the Chevelle and the Firebird for 30 years were AC Delco batteries and the last pair in the Firebird were 8 years old before I swapped them out.

I've had really good luck with AutoZone Duralast AGM and west marine AGM batteries. I believe all of my cars run group 34 batteries.

We have used a very small ATV Odyssey in the Vette and have for years. We carry a spare in the trailer but have never needed it. The spare and one in the car get replaced every 4 years no matter.

I bought Duracell AGM from Sam's Club. Batteries I replaced were same, Duracell AGM and had been in car 6+ years 4 of which were without an altenator and were still working fine. I always try to check the manufacturing dates. I have seen 10 months spread on the same shelf. I always keep my batteries on a 0.75amp maintainer, seems to be working for me. I'd like to change to 16v, maybe next battery change in another 3 or 4 years. Good luck.

agree for high compression, big cube engines BUT they do have a reputation of failing without warning and unless you carry a spare, you're screwed because you won't be able to leave the track and drive to the local auto parts store to get a replacement. You'll be making a call to Summit or Jegs and it can't be shipped air/over night because it is a hazardous item.

My old racecar came with an Optima, I do not even know how old it was but I know the car sat for two years before I bought it. Never had a problem out of that battery. Then I bought another and used the old one in my trailer as a spare. I had good results with the Optima and I think for racecars an AGM type battery any brand is safer. Ran that battery for about 6 years until I decided to try the 16 volt deal.

On the 16 Volt mine has worked pretty good, it definitely spins over faster but it does not last as long before it goes dead. Usually not a problem but I was making some changes and got my barrel valve and tune up off and car just did not want to start in Semi-Finals. Spun it over trying to make the call and it just went dead.

So my thinking is overall power from the batteries is about the same just how they dump it. The 12 volt may spin over motor 750 times at say 500 RPM and the 16 volt may spin it over 500 times at 750 RPM but overall power is about the same.

On my new car I am building I went back to 12 volt system. Nothing really wrong with 16 volt just not all that much better.

As far as I am concerned one of the best things you can do is go to the 139 tooth starter deal. I went with CSR 139 tooth around 2012 and the guy I sold car to is still running it. Before every time I pulled out the motor I would put a new flexplate on it because they were all junk and would get teeth knocked off. With 139 tooth deal no more problems.

Probably 85% of all bracket racers run still run 12v. Works fine for me no reason to switch or change. And for the very reason Ed states is why I am sticking with 12v

We have a 16V Anti gravity o order for the Vette but still have not received it. We don't have room for a very large battery without rethinking how we mount it. It is inside the front fender at the bottom in front of the tire. Where we would like to keep it.

FWIW we currently don't have any issues really with 12V stuff. We have a slew of Racepak stuff in the car including 8 O2's. We also run an alternator for that reason.
