oil pan heater
I decided that I want to go away from the pad style oil pan heater and put one of those immersable screw in ones in the pan since I have the pan off.

I know there were several that said they have this setup.

Any tips on placement, lessons learned?

I have had mine in 2 different places on 2 different pans. Watch clearance for the pickup and make sure it doesn't run into any of the oil control walls.

Do you still have the cross member in your Nova? If so where I put mine could cause you some clearance issues.

I do have a crossmember, I figure I will have to go in from the side towards the front to say away from the oil pump.

I will have to check my clearance to go in from the front, which I think would be better in terms of the heater would be more towards the center of the oil pan.

I like that place better, I will need to see if I can make it work.

The top photo (upside down engine) is a champ pan. 8" deep sump, which you can see I made deeper to accommodate the aluminum shark tooth pump which is for 8 1/4" sump. I really like it and it has machined end caps, doesn't use a gasket and has been working really well.

The bottom pan is a Steff's I had years ago. It was 8 1/4" deep.
