My competitors pretty often ask me how fast my car is MPH wise. Recently, my last race I was asked what my top MPH was. I told them I didn't know & I don't know. This person is a very accomplished racer. I told him the best answer I had was I've been 152 MPH in the 1/4 mile ripping the throttle & this was by mistake. Anyway, our track is 1/4 mile & 99.9 % of the time I don't run it out the backdoor. It doesn't matter if it's during time runs or eliminations. I do the same for 1/8th mile racing. Back to the thread title: Do you run your race vehicle all out? I'll start with a couple reasons why I don't run our/my car all out: - I'm not legal to run over 150 mph yet. Not that I will when I'm. - It's easier on the engine. - I have all the incremental times I need for run completion. 2BKING ![]() ![]() 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3000 lbs. Depends on who and what I am racing. And I have my car detuned most of the time - if that counts to what you're asking. But like you said, if you have a car that repeats you don't need the full run. I have been to 3 different tracks this year and out of the trailer based on weather I am usually within +/-.01

I was mainly talking about the top-end, but it doesn't matter. I have my car detuned all the time when bracket racing, need to work on a slower detune! I'll be more specific with a question, answer if you wish. Do you run your car without lifting the throttle during time runs? I lift, rip or don't run all out, because I don't wish to show my hand. As for different tracks I don't have a good off the trailer handle on ET yet. I do know our ProCharged combo doesn't vary with weather like our NA combo did. Our last race I went to Famoso Dragway, CA one of our best tracks for good air in our area. Our home track is Las Vegas, NV. When we go to Famoso our NA car would pick-up an easy .20 in ET, with the boosted combo we picked up around .06 in ET. 2BKING ![]() ![]() 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3000 lbs. My car runs 1/8 all out crossing at 7200+ and not geared for 1/4 . It leaves soft with an 8.02 SLR and reaches maximum hp at 6900. I’ll never run 1/4 again nor would I want to.

I do in time trials. Don't care if they know. I have even told my competitor what I was carrying before when asked.

I get asked that question ALL the time. And frankly I have never made an all in 1/4 mile run off the stop. I dont care what it will run that way frankly. Not what its built for. I have gone 168 letting off at about 1100 feet here but thats as close as I have come to seeing. I have made all out 1/8 mile runs and its been 5.17 at 132 or 3. BUt I dont even run it out 1/8 mile often. Usually I am happy to go 7.60's at 113. Way faster than my S/ST runs are but I just feel It makes it harder on all the damn 4.60 dragsters we have. FWIW on the stop I have been 10.90 161 but that wasn't all it has. I have been 11.05 at 158 here in Vegas "I am not ashamed to confess I am ignorant of what I do not know." This sounds about right, Hell I run sgtreet car and hafrley same way. Speed limit is highest rpm in highest gear you have. Well unless barney is around. Why run a car anything else IMO. Yes I do understand why some do not, just not for me. Hell Wish my junk would run balls to the wall right now. America home of free. Brought to you by 2nd amendment.

I got close (once) at Barona but chicken out at the first MPH cone and bailed. The brakes and weight, plus the chute is usually slow to deploy on my car are the determining factors. With the DA up near 5000 ft. it ran 5.08 @ a little over 135, fast enough to plunk the front tires in the sand. So, after a change of underwear and careful consideration I've decided to NOT do that again. I've considered replacing the standard chute deployment system with a CO2 canon but the expense just to scare myself eliminated that thought. I'd like to be around to celebrate my 85th birthday. I didn't start this thread about carrying, holding, sandbagging or whatever anyone wishes to call it. On that note, I'm open about always holding numbers & I have a range I like to use. I do some stupid/big hold numbers sometimes also. Some of my competitors ask why I'm open about always holding. I tell them I vary my holds depending on the upcoming race & I'm usually very close + or - of my dial. I'm going to keep you guessing, that's one of the reasons I don't run all out in time trials/races. I don't consider myself a hitter/great bracket racer, but I do like to study what them hitters are doing for strategies. They're good for reason & if I can use some of their strategies to better my old man bracket racing program. I'm going to practice them & use them to pull round(s) or wins out of my A$$. 2BKING ![]() ![]() 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3000 lbs. No. Take care. Tom Worthington If it seems that bracket racing has gotten too expensive for you, maybe you are just doing it wrong.

In a late rounds bye run I will always make a full run. I find that when people know what I'm holding it sometimes makes them change the way that they have been driving or do something they normally wouldn't. I'm also the guy that will shorten up the shift up on a bye run to manipulate the scoreboard. Denis LeBlanc

I agree with the above. I was the one that made it about holding & it's something I have to do to get rid of MPH. 2BKING ![]() ![]() 1980 Camaro Taking the Best Working Small Tire Shyt Box & making it Greater Than Before! 3000 lbs. Pump Gas 436
