Buy Brad Penn (Penn-Grade) on Ebay. Best prices I’ve found.

Do you think all the Molybdenum that is added to Schaeffers oil has anything to do with this?

I have no clue.if it wasn't for my racepak I wouldn't even know what was happening.it may not have hurt the motor but I don't like its readings and the cavitation at the stripe really scared me

So Penn Grade is considered the same oil as Brad Penn green oil that doesn’t mix with alcohol as bad as some ?

Brad Penn is now called Penn-Grade. You want the Penn-Grade 1 product that is the racing oil and is the same green racing oil as prior.

Looking at the TDS the viscosity index is 135 for the Lucas and 126 for the Schaeffers and the 100°C viscosity is a little lighter for the Shaeffers but I would be surprised if that was enough difference for it to cause what he is seeing. The data doesn't lie as far as pressure readings go but it also doesn't explain why the pressure is higher after the shift when rpm drops on the Lucas.

https://www.schaefferoil.com/documents/70-191-td.pdf

I can say though that I went from Lucas 5-30 synthetic racing to the Penn Grade 1 10-30 racing and saw a significant decrease in pressure but the viscosity index was 161 and 138 for respectively, which is 13.2 and 10.8 at 100° C.

here is a graph from the following run which shows the drop after the shift...top line rpm...middle line lucas oil and bottom line schaffers

jenavet
the spike just before the finish line for the lucas was a low of 78psi...the spikes at the finish line for the schaeffers was a low of 44psi

exactly my thoughts

looking at the second pic it looks like it didnt have enough in the engine and maybe not all is draining back to the pan

whatever was going on there, isn't the fault of the oil you had in it. We use Schaffers micron moly in all our engines for the past 10 years and never had a problem with pressure or wear.

I really don't think the schaeffers was going to hurt anything but definitely a huge difference in pressure that makes me uncomfortable
DLR can you post your racepak graph on your schaeffers oil ? and what viscocity you are using?

Bucky
What is the difference between the two pictures posted? The sharp rise after the shift is gone.
I don't know if it would hurt anything or not either. But it would get my attention for sure.

I thought the way it read on your first post you only made one pass on the Shaeferrs?

Hey big Steve. What you mean about boiling the moisture out and reusing? How you do that?

Looking at this makes me glad all I have is a gauge and a light!! Pressure is nice, makes us all feel good but of course flow is the most important thing when it comes to oil. I'm guessing aftermarket block with priority main oiling. I'd say some has to do with where the sensor is.

Last year at a race a young friend pitted next to me with a S/C dragster saw some low oil pressure readings on his RACEPACK dash. Missed the race and spent all afternoon with pan off, pump out and distributer out looking for issues. They found nothing and I believe just replaced the sensor......

the first graph shows back to back one run on schaeffers and one run on lucas
the scond graph is the 3rd run on the lucas and I just overlayed the first run on the schaeffers to compare the runs
