I have been running a single XS D1600 with Powermaster Mini alternator for 10 years. It's probably overkill but I do swap out batteries every 2 years just for my piece of mind. I keep the old battery as a spare or to help someone at the track if needed.

I switched from optimas to AutoZone duralast platinum agm batteries. I have one and a 55amp alternator in my dragster and one in our door car with a unknown size alternator.

I have 16 turbostart and powermaster mini alternator, my battery is over 5 years old and I do carry a spare but also my alternator has the adjustable regulator so if I have to pull battery out of tow vehicle to race I can just back off the regulator. I didn’t have any luck with XS battery.

I run a single gold top battery from discount auto along with a 120 volt powermaster alternator...I never need to charge at the track...recently I raced 5 day and 4 day events with no issues...

I am a firm believer that really good wiring is vitally important...I goofed up last week and left my power on overnight at the track and it went down into the low 40's...no issues whatsoever since I had every wire in my car pulled out and replaced professionally...prior to that the battery would have died for sure...

I agree good wiring is very important. Too many small charge wires of long lengths, poor grounds, bad crimps, etc. etc. It's death by a thousand cuts that gets you with poor wiring. Good point.

I've seen it with my own eyes and that's why I'm not putting a lithium battery(s) in my cars.

Have worked with a lithium company for the last 29 years and a few years ago I tried to explain why you don't want a lithium battery. What most people do not understand is once lithium gets really hot it is difficult to extinguish, These guys were very lucky that they got this fire put out.

Any battery can be dangerous. Look at all of the trailer fires caused by Golf Carts. Use some common sense. I tend to believe the good lithium batteries like Go Lithium are fairly safe.

1. Use the right charger for the battery.

2. Make sure the battery is secure and can not move or short.

3. Make sure there is no flammables near batteries or other possible ignition source.

4. I would not have any lead acid batter (or fuel) near drivers compartment.

lithium batery fires have nothing to do with trailer fires caused by golf cart batteries that are the result of the owner/operator leaving the battery in the cart which then falls over and grounds out because the cheap tray/clamp broke.

I have preached over and over on the subject of trailer fires. A few have taken my advice but for most it falls on deaf ears.

Actually it wasn't even my advice to begin with but Guy Price's advice. After they lost their Nova and trailer to a fire he came up with the smoke detectors and siren/light combo on the front of the trailer.

But everybody thinks it won't happen to them until it does. There are even better solutions out there today with the technology that's available.

At the very least put a wireless camera system inside the trailer and a couple of big extinguishers in the truck and make sure you have the keys handy or just put a carabiner or some type of latch you can remove from the door easily while you're driving down the road.

Don't be a victim.

Good choice. I am going to say it again I think the Optima are very good batteries and if you are having issues it is most likely a wiring problem. Something causing a drain on power.

Curiously if lithium batteries are to blame as some propose why are cars not burning up at tracks and shops ? Warehouses and storefront businesses that sell they would be burning everywhere . Trucks transporting them to market and factories would be blazing . Someone is just hunting a plausible excuse for these fires or neglecting to tell the whole story .....
