Yup. A good forged aluminum wheel is fine, cast aluminum, not so much. Lots of side pressure/force on trailer wheels when turning.....

I'll keep my steel ones. They aren't fancy but they do the job!

What trailer is this with disc brakes?

Looks to be A 16 ON 6.5. 8 LUG More so a high end RV.. It was sent to me some time ago. Asked WTF is "THAT"?. When i was doing mobile RV work when i had time. Seen more shyt fly off. Wheel included.
Worst jobs i hated were slide issues at like KOA's and RV parks. It sucked. One in particular was, front hydraulic legs were stuck down. would not retract. He was furious. Stupid relay. I stick to trucks. Easier lol.

We quit offering aluminum wheels on Trailer Toads and no longer sell them for trailers. Far too many failures when 12 or 14-ply tires were installed and the air pressures turned up to 90-110 psi.
There are some "extreme duty" aluminum trailer wheels available and they make thicker steel wheels in 15 and 16" for heavier rated tires and the higher load air pressures.
Check the rating, torque the aluminum wheels often as the steel seats for the lug nuts are pressed into the aluminum wheels and with the side loads and temperature changes, we all realize "aluminum can move".
Check the wheel ratings that are stamped on them, I suggest not going right to the limits but be aware, they are ALL China-type products.

By the way 1320- Trailer Disc brakes are AWESOME!

I have had between 10 and 15 customers over the last year or year and a half, have cracked wheels, both steel and aluminum. We have also had customers call about the lug nuts seemingly never really seating and staying. Is it common, no. Do not deny the truth until you deal with 300 trailer tire/wheel sales a year, I do.
Those customers have another 1200 to 1500 trailer tires and wheels they deal with. Probably 24,000 trailer wheels on Trailer Toads and the trailers behind them.
Stuff happens, just be a little more aware when adding a tire rated higher than the wheel and By the Way Ed- they are ALL China Junk you are rolling on.

shyt does happen and usually to those that don't inspect, don't do maintenance, over load their trailer/axles/wheels and generally don't give a fuc or are clueless!

I ain't worried about my trailer wheels failing and again, the failed "fancy wheel" in the photo is NOT a trailer wheel nor a trailer!

I didn't point my comments at anyone. More of a warning in general for people's safety is all.
Doesn't matter to me who has or doesn't have what. Personally I use aluminum trailer wheels and aluminum wheels on the Trailer Toad. I am also a bit if a maintenance freak and have had zero issues, the same cannot be said of everyone who tows trailers.

This occurred to me this fall on a 3k mile trip.
I had a 8 lug 16 inch wheel that came with my trailer crack 3 of the 10 spokes when I got stupid lucky and saw the hairline marks. These were the original wheels with @70K miles. The were rated 3500lbs per wheel. I have 16k lbs on the axles. They "should" be enough wheel. I replaced them with the newer 4500lb wheel with 16 spokes. Wish it was easy to post a picture here.
It was a very sobering thing to see and realize how bad a 100lb wheel and tire might be if it hit someone.

One of the 16 inch 8 lug aluminum wheels that came as original equipment on my Haulmark Edge cracked. The wheel did not fail like the "fancy wheel" in the picture, and the trailer did not have drum brakes. I did learn that a heavier duty aluminum wheel is available. I went back with the higher load rated wheels (aluminum). No problems the last 5 years with the new wheels.

Came off the trailer in front of him at highway speed. Escaped with his life. Standard Alcoa assemble. Had to replace 20 studs and nuts on the back axle. Front axle over torqued by 150 Ft lbs.
Only one purpose for a 1" impact and that is to take them off period. The 1' impacts will produce 1200 Foot Lbs and stretch the studs. Yield and stretch>>> Snap......

Correction on my earlier post---the trailer did NOT have DISC brakes.
