Trying to mount a crank trigger but the bracket hangs too low and gets in the way of my steering. Are there any other options for mounting the crank trigger.

Do you have room on the opposite side? Foxtrot Juliet Bravo

You can mount it pretty much anywhere you have room,,, just a custom bracket is required. You may also have to drill new holes in the wheel depending on where you locate the pickup to line up the wheel with the magnet! If you fix mount the pickup, (No slide mount as provided) then have the wheel holes slotted so you can both adjust and change the timing!

if I mount it with the standard mount then it will hit my steering linkage on both side. The motor has been moved back and its still a stock front chassis. I would have to flip the mount around and mount it on top side of the balancer. The magnetic wheel doesn't have any issues its just the standard mounting brackets that wont work, the pickup sensor would hit steering on both sides.

all this trouble for a crank trigger that does nothing for performance and only lightens your wallet. I didn't get the memo that stated it's a requirement on a bracket engine yet somehow my engine makes over 900HP with a distributor having the pickup in it and accelerates my Firebird every week to restricted ETs of 9.0x with deadly consistency and has accelerated my nearly 3200 lb. footbrake launched car to 8.72 @ 154mph. Must just be dumb luck. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

You need to have a wheel magnet at the pickup when the rotor is pointing at #1. If you use a custom mount for the pickup, the current holes in the wheel may not give you that option in which case you'd need to drill or slot the wheel. Tony Leonard

I have 2 crank triggers in the trailer. I have nothing else to tinker with on the car and was just looking for something to occupy my time. Yep probably not needed but I want it anyway. Anyone have any links to anyone who makes custom brackets etc.?

have at it but not probably, definitely not needed.

Crank triggers are not needed but definitely easier to work with in the long run. Once you set it, it never changes unless the pickup reverses polarity. Can swap mine between engines and the timing never changes. As long as I install it in the same place. Most people mess it up by not indexing or marking 0 on the wheel. Have changed intake gaskets and lifters in the staging lanes (in a dragster) and never had to use a timing light. Bolt it on a new build and it is exactly where it needs to be for the first start up, every time. 72 Nova "Hooptie"

You first need to figure out where you can put the pickup without hitting your obstructions! Then you can see if anyone has one but likely it will need a custom one off bracket.

My distributor never changes once set and it too is exactly where it needs to be for the first start up, every time but that's neither here nor there. The point is in the OP's case, it's a custom install so why bother when there's no performance gain, no consistency, gain, no reliability gain and it cost more than a race ready distributor? All negatives.

Not gonna turn this into a train wreck and argue with you Ed. OP wants a crank trigger, lets help him add one to the car whether you think he needs one or not. PM sent 72 Nova "Hooptie"

no train wrecks, just the facts and the truth. He don't need it and do so is a custom application so why bother?

I really am curious about this because you often comment over and over on threads such as this when someone does something you don't agree with. Why does it matter so much to you if they don't do as you would? ____________________________ 2017 and 2018 Osage Casinos Tulsa Raceway Park No-Box Champion 2018 Div4 Goodguys Hammer award winner

Crank trigger is great. As far as alignment, the msd's I believe all have a combination of h0les that give you options to cover just about any mounting. Between the options with the wheel and the range of the adjustable bracket, you should have overlap anywhere you need it without drilling or slotting holes. Foxtrot Juliet Bravo

In a word narcissist. A narcissist has an over whelming feeling he is always right and knows best. Happened across this explanation of narcissism a few days ago and immediately thought of Ed: "Narcissism is the pursuit of gratification from vanity or egotistic admiration of one's own attributes." I asked the OP WHY bother when a crank trigger does NOTHING and in his application is a PITA that will require some kind of custom installation to which no one has offered him a viable solution yet. That said, I couldn't care any less what anyone does with their car, their time, their $. I only offer advice based on 25 years of on track experience and I won't lose a moments sleep knowing the OP is struggling to install a crank trigger on his engine/car that again, will provide no performance gain, no consistency, gain, no reliability gain and it cost more than a race ready distributor.

Sometimes it's just the challenge of making a change. Won't make his ride any faster. And he will learn to keep a spare pickup in the trailer, they are known to fail. I keep one for my buddies just in case they need it, and they have in the past. I put an MSD crank trigger setup on both of my cars and had the brand new pickups sitting in the trailer since I use the Holley Hall Effect replacement pickup with my EFI setup. I needed it for the sequential injection, otherwise the old distributor and 6AL worked just fine going 8.8's @ 156! ![]()

Do a search for megasquirt GT6 crank trigger. The picture that pops up will give you an idea of what I was thinking. I swear someone makes something similar for an MSD crank trigger. It goes over the top of the damper. Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right. Here I am.......
