In my division or at most of the bottom bulb I race I can leave off trans brake and chip. Or set the sle just below the chip as needed. My Cars that I have foot braked I drive in deep and leave at idle. They are 5.80 and faster and Rons fuel injection and seem to leave at a good spot on the bulb there. As far as trying to foot brake shallow forget on my stuff as you have to push so hard on the brake pedel it impossible to hold the car and thats with and 8" converter with a 6400 stall. The race car wilwood brakes will stop on the other end but do not like to power brake. Drive in deep, let idle, deck it when the last yellow gets its voltage signal. If you wait on it your late and if you meet the bulb comming on you are red.

P.S. sorry for the long previous post. If I had a car that I could bring the RPM up while holding the foot brake then YES most absolutly I would need to reference it with the tack. I adapt what I have to work with. Last big money foot brake I won the 10,000 and both myself and the other car in the final were deep staged at I64 dragstrip in Kentucky

Mount it where ever you want it is your car. You want it where you can clearly see it when your hands are in your driving position.

They aren't allowed here and don't need it anyway. I have a tach. D1 is using buttons now anyway aren't they?

I'm sure that is for bottom bulbing. I've seen those and they are super cool for footbraking. You can set your idle kinda like a PTO on a wrecker. Really cool idea.

Yeah Mike I know what they are. You can't use them around here though.

Man back in 1971 when I started driving, was nothing cooler than a Sun tach mounted on the column,a flat bar hurst competition plus shifter,t handle shift knob,a pressure plate clutch my little ass could barely press in,8 track player, bucket seats, solid lifters, headers with thrush or golden ram mufflers and a chain from the left head to the frame to limit the engine movement so we didnt break motor mounts. Boy that was high tech.We were cooking with grease then. And oh yea if it came with a powerglide we wasted no time in gettin that out and putting in a muncie 4 speed M20,m21 or if we were lucky an m22. But it had to have that sun tach even if the car came with a factory one. And if you were really cool a Moroso cable driven distributor tach mounted on the cowl. Entertainment plus right here.
