Falling of chair laughing your local track checks belts in a blue state that has multiple cities ranked amongst the most dangerous and highest murder rates in the country.

Meanwhile, I haven't raced at a track that has checked belts nor anything else in a least a decade. The NHRA too no longer techs.

The two year seat belt mandatory recertification is totally unnecessary, most of these cars sit in a trailer or shade 90% of the time. This is simply an income stream for the manufacturers it does nothing to increase your safety.

No one has ever been ticketed for a seat belt out of certification by a Police or DOT Officer.

Not sure if this is still true or if it ever was true, but many many years ago I sent belts in to be updated and they called me and said all the hardware needed to be replaced this time. They said after 3 re-certs, I think, all the metal has to be replaced. What a joke.

Ron, the harness biotching is old, it is what it is and mostly likely won't ever change but what has changed is most tracks don't tech so what are you worried about especially that you feel out of date belts regardless of age are just as good as brand new belts?

Yeah, you're right but I'm a rules follower and it's really hard for me to break them even if they don't make sense. I'm surprised to hear that NHRA doesn't tech.

Nope stopped with Covid. Doesn't me they can't walk the lanes and make random inspections but no more official tech

At NHRA events they will absolutely check things such as belts while walking the staging lanes, and will occasionally pull everyone aside following a run to check one specific item on all cars.

At Brainerd, if you don’t have ETI you will get the full tech procedure at every bracket race. It’s a pain, but I’d prefer that to the more southern version of tech.

Good to know. I'm not a fan of the lever. My son's pro 1's are just out of date and we have a few weeks off after this weekend. So in they go for reweb. His car came with these belts. After decades of Stroud, I have to say I like these belts. And they are the 2" as well. Our local track checks, and the fella asked me last week if we replaced the belts yet. Really nice about it. But he's not gonna let it ride forever.

I'm on the fence about the lever, wasn't thrilled to see that, but I think once I install them I'll like it more.
The knob doesn't really have a "positive" feel, it tends to stay in the released position, causing some fumbling around getting strapped in.

I would have told them right then do not bother to recert them I will buy another brand.

The seat belt rule is a money scam but it is the rules. I believe it was started by seat belt manufacturers, enforced by NHRA and due to insurance will never go away.

Pro 1 belts are best I have found. They adjust easily and hold tight. They cam locks nice and firm. The magnets is a nice option. Service has been very good.

"Dunning-Kruger Effect"
-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.

Simpson belts are the gold standard, the benchmark of the industry and their rotary cam does NOT “tend to stay in the released position” like those of their imitators aka competitors.

They are supposed to stay in the open position.

Wrong Not Simpson's camlock. The rotary is always in the lock position, the harness tabs are pushed into the cam in the locked position and the cam requires twisting 90 degrees in either direction, engaging the detent to release the tabs.

Regarding the "No Tech Inspection by your Track".

If you do have an accident the Track makes out an "Incident Report" and it shows that the safety belts were not in compliance, this gives the Insurance Company the opportunity to deny any injury claim.

NOTE: Regarding filing an Insurance Claim.

The Company handling the NHRA Insurance Claim first hits your Insurance Company for payment, after they exhaust that fund then they start to pay. At least that was what happened when I had an accident. In the end both funds were exhausted so I paid an additional $1800.

Bob, that doesn't hold up and the precedent has been set years ago when Atco was sued by the decease's family with their lawyer stating this racer should have never been on the track due to non compliance/ I forget whether the non compliance was the car or driver buy regardless Atco was found guilty of negligence and the family was awarded $30m IIRC.

I wonder what their reasoning is for that? I have had RCI and now Stroud and both stayed unlatched when twisted so once released they won’t latch back and keep you from exiting. I wouldn’t want to have to unlatch a second time if I didn’t get every clip out or have to hold it open to make sure all were out in an emergency.

Your original statement was not about releasing the harness, rather engaging it into the cam lock and read again what I stated.

Good Morning Ed, hope that you had a great Father's day!

I can't speak to what happened in the case pertaining to Atco but in my case the Insurance Company, Prefered Care, (a subsidiary of Cigna Insurance) was the secondary Payee, my Health Provider at the time was Blue Shield and that fund was exhausted before Prefered Care contributed a single dime.

No, my original statement was about them staying in the open position after released and why “they tend to stay in the open position”.

I may have misunderstood your comment.

Just got a new set of Pro 1s today, stamped Dec 2025. Same rotary knob as my other set that will need recert this December. Nice belts. And they pay contingency.
