I put Simpson camlock belts in the car and I'm wondering what the red strap on the camlock is for. Thanks for any help.

The strap velcros up onto the right shoulder belt as a safety to prevent the latch from being accidentally released

Thanks Ed, I saw the Velcro and wondered. I must've missed this feature in the instruction book. I don't care for these belts but maybe I'll get used to them.

I love Simpson belts, it’s all I’ve used since my first set, both cars have them and the firebird’s harness is custom, got s new one on the big brown truck now. This set we’ve switched from the lever cam lock to the rotary cam lock like the dragster harness.

I'm thinking about asking them if I can change the camlock to a rotator and move it to the sub belt. I'd bet that Simpson won't sell me a rotator but I'm gonna try. The Velcro on the red strap doesn't line up with the mating Velcro on the belt with the strap taut. Another thing I'm gonna miss from the Pro1's is the magnetized hardware on the shoulder belts. These belts must've been a slow mover from Summit because the expiration date on the belts is June 2025. I should've bought directly from Simpson I guess. If you need/want an unused set of Simpsons, I'll make you a decent deal on these. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Ron Gusack,

That’s been a part of my custom belts for the Firebird for years, cam lock on the crotch strap like what is standard on the dragster belts and black aluminum adjusters also standard on the dragster belts. I’ve never bought my Simpson belts from summit, always directly from Simpson and I’ve never had an alignment issue with the Velcro and safety strap in all the decades I’ve used these belts.

Simpson is a really good company but there’s now way I would use that lever lock system. The rotary cam lock is the way I would go. ____________________________ 2017 and 2018 Osage Casinos Tulsa Raceway Park No-Box Champion 2018 Div4 Goodguys Hammer award winner

There is no issue with the lever lock cam, I’ve used it for 30 years without any issue and it’s in service right now in the Firebird.

The end of June 2025 is more than two years from today. What expiration date were you expecting? Tony Leonard

Maybe, but there is a reason that there is a strap on them to to keep from accidentally releasing it. That didn't come about for no reason. Doesn't matter though, as I said their rotary system is the way I would go. Similar to the one on my Stroud belts. ____________________________ 2017 and 2018 Osage Casinos Tulsa Raceway Park No-Box Champion 2018 Div4 Goodguys Hammer award winner

The reason is because what we do is full of knuckleheads that can break an anvil, just read anyone of wideopen231 threads.

Some of the dirt car series mandate a red velcro safety strap.

I know it's a minor gripe, but every set of belts I've ever bought or had re-certified was 26 months minimum. Look at the pic Ed posted with a Dec 2025 label. The whole re-cert deal just doesn't sit well with me.

I do understand that, but now that belts only expire in June or December, they probably can't offer as much 'date padding' as you order closer to those months. Tony Leonard

Just got my new Pro 1 cam lock belts yesterday, forgot to look at the date, they nicked me for a couple of months on the last set. They changed the release from a knob to a lever style. "Despite the high cost of living, it remains popular." Dave Cook N375

The date is just about meaningless unless you race at NHRA events, no one is checking

Good to know. I'm not a fan of the lever. My son's pro 1's are just out of date and we have a few weeks off after this weekend. So in they go for reweb. His car came with these belts. After decades of Stroud, I have to say I like these belts. And they are the 2" as well. Our local track checks, and the fella asked me last week if we replaced the belts yet. Really nice about it. But he's not gonna let it ride forever. Foxtrot Juliet Bravo
