Looking for and experience with or opinions of Viking shocks. Especially compared to Strange and QA1. Looking to buy a set of double adjustables for my ladder bar car.

Hard to beat Qa1 for that application

What’s unusual is that Viking and QA-1 are both located in Lakeville MN.

I thought I read the guy that started Viking used to work for or somehow be part of QA-1. ____________________________ 2017 and 2018 Osage Casinos Tulsa Raceway Park No-Box Champion 2018 Div4 Goodguys Hammer award winner

QA1 was a family run business. When they changed to cheaper (off shore) parts 10 years ago, the son and daughter-in-law (maybe it was the daughter and son-in-law) left and started Viking. it's a safe bet you won't find viking shocks under the any of the best working, winningest stock/super cars nor the majority of stock/super stock cars.

From there website, QA-1 shocks are 100% dyno tested, serialized and Made in the USA. The company also has a ISO 9001 certification.

mark maybe but they are GARBAGE once the truth and the facts become known after being on an independent shock dyno. I replaced a set with Afco's on a friend's 4th gen F body years ago. Night and day difference.

Who makes these? QA1? I gotta set of these sitting here leaking on the work bench, customer not real thrilled they want $300 to replace a seal in them. These were the only bolt in factory location 3rd gen Camaro. They worked great torque arm Fab 9 BMR torque arm, sway BBC 10 x 28 bias tire. Not very durable though. Torque arm car 750hp steel headed BBC nose heavy short W/B car on a 10 x 28 won't go straight without a decent set of doubles. We have no options stock location bolt in stock suspension.

I have a set of double adjustable Vikings on my Mustang and couldn't be happier. 4-5k clutch dumps (I know converter guy with a manual car) on the street and hooks up no problem with them. -Dalton FTI Performance Competition Converters and Racing Transmissions "Some call it cheating, we call it the competitive edge." www.FTIPerformance.com info@ftiperformance.com

I put a set of double adjustable front shocks on my car. I have mustang 2 front suspension and Viking made a kit to replace the shock. I know you are asking about rears. The Viking shocks are very very nice and they fit and work great. I will disagree with 1290. I have a 15 year old set of single adjustable QA1 shocks on the rear of my car and they have been perfect. Now I do not have a pro mod or even a nice SG car. I have a bracket/SST car. it runs 5.80's with 1.27 60' times. When I replace the antique QA1's I will replace with Viking double adjustable. ep

Do you think SST/NHRA would be better if it were run on a .370 pro tree with a 10.0 index, no stops? Or it's fine as it is? Just curious. I think it would be some good head up racing myself. People might watch/follow a little.

pauley, let me know when you are ready to try a real shock to compare to your QA-1s and I will send you Afco's to try.

bama, as I told Waylon A double adjustable drag shock is always beneficial and the shock you want is Afco which are bolted to the rear of this footbrake car... https://youtu.be/rbKYio6OvKM

370 tree I think is a non starter. most sst cars are really bracket cars that run sst. there are a handful of cars that could hit that tree but I say the majority of us can't. we currently are running on a 470 tree and I run around .070 delay for that. turn me loose on a 370 and I would be a stellar 30 to 40 at the hit. as far as 10.00 no stops don't think is the answer either. like some other threads about .90 racing changing indexes, don't mess with what has worked for years. as stated here before, the average fan hates stop racing and doesn't understand it so they don't and won't watch anyway. if they had a better understanding of what it takes to go .90 they may have a better appreciation for it. around here there are some 7.0 and 6.0 index classes. if they don't run stops car count is low. if they do allow stops car count is low. so around here if you get 10 to 15 cars that is a good race. guys with no stops won't race against a stop car yet they will enter a bracket race where speeds are 40 mph different. I don't get it. ep-back on subject 1290 is gonna hook me up with afco is what I am hearing. Viking is a nice product at a good price point. I am on a budget 1290.

Jeezz Ed. Now you tell me. I was switching to 10# lighter springs on the rear of my car Sunday and found one of the 25 yr old Aldans DA was bad. Had them rebuilt 10 yrs ago. I honestly believe they got worn out on the trailer. Going to try and address that next. Looked at Strange, AFCO and QA-1. All DA and same size lengths to fit my car. Strange $600 delivered no springs from Jegs. AFCO $875 direct using their special 2-5/8” id springs. QA-1 $500 delivered no springs from Jegs. After reviewing all three companies and products on their websites, I believe each would work excellent for my application which is 4-link wheels down 6.3x et 1/8 mile bracket racing. I ordered the QA-1 Monday morning from Jegs and supposed to be here tomorrow.

Just so you know, I did my part to explain throttle stop racing to those sitting in the vicinity of me in the stands in Gainesville. It always ended in the same result, with me being drug across the ground holding onto one of their legs, yelling hold on I'm almost done explaining it!

All this talk on here makes me think about looking at/replacing my AVO singles. Time to replace? Doesn't really matter unless I want to travel to race. I'm sure they will work fine to get ice cream!
