I will probably call Star in the morning but just curious if anyone here has torn one down. What I want to know is how the fittings on the little manifold on top of the pump are attached. It almost appears as if they are pressed in.

I am cerakoting the pump and it would be easier if I could remove those fittings. Anybody out there messed with one?

I've had mine apart Vern, but never took the vacuum valve off of it. Not much to them really....

I will probably just mask off the threads before I blast tomorrow. It just would have been easier to have them out of the way.

The pump was still working great but was faded and looked a little tired. Black pulley, black mount, sniper gray for the pump itself. I think it’s gonna be fine.

I have had Min apart a few times. Those fittings don’t come out of that little manifold. I had a bearing go bad this year and messed up the rotor shaft on mine.

I have an old one with the slip on tubes. I have sent it back to Tim at Starr and he is going to set it up for AN fittings and take the tubes out and reseal them, one was leaking around the base.
Great customer service.

I will say this, they are very well built. I was impressed when I took it apart.

I once started to try and take mine apart but was not getting anywhere...the Sportsman pump

Called Star and sent it in....very inexpensive to have him take it apart and check it.

It was like new inside after about 6 years

I will say they don't like running with no oil separator on the inlet side....

I have 2 ugly Moroso cans on mine and tried running it without the inlet separator and promptly had issues.....pump must have gotten some debris in it and was sticking badly..

Got it cleaned out and had no issue the rest of that weekend.

I put the separator back on after that

Star has one breather/seperator unit that does both...

The only thing I don't like about them is that the outlet points up so water can sit in them and not drain, which is what happened to my bearing. My pump sits lower than my breather/separator tank. If I can't remount it I am going to look at rotating it so the in and out is down. LOL

Got everything Cerakoted today except the body of the pump. I’ll do it tomorrow. I did break a couple of hex bits getting the 6-32 screws out of the pulley. I hope it turns out okay. Mine looked great inside so I’ll just reassemble it. Maybe I’ll even post a picture.
